Duff relay. Without a trailer connected the trailer light should only flash once. Have you recently changed any lights from incandescent to LEDs perchance? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I've had LED lights on for about the last year or so K9F.
Ray, I have spayed both sockets with WD as a precaution, however this has only happened since I actually swapped the relay for the new one. I think I remember the old relay having some thing like ABS on the side of it, do I have the wrong relay ? The local Indy supplied it to me. The trailer light did flash faintly at first but now it just flashes constantly. I've since chucked the old relay so can't even refit that. |

When you say LED lights I meant indicators. If this is the case there are only two relays (that I personally know of) that will work properly the RDX and Wipac LED ones. These have the facility to adjust flash rate/trailer light trigger point accordingly.

Sorry my mistake.
Still reckon it's the relay as the symptoms have changed since fitting. I would use an evaporating degreasing agent on the tow socket and thoroughly clean it out as I am not sure if WD40 may be conductive in vast amounts. Then try yet another relay if this is practical for you. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I'm thinking dodgy relay myself, will have to get another & try it.
I have some electrical contact cleaner that I could spray into the towing sockets. |

Ideal, if you have a small paintprush use that as well to get inside the sockets too. Good luck.

Check the earth for contiunuity on the trailer socket and negative pin on and indicator.
It should be a very low reading if not likely earth fault. Check earth strap on transfer box clean and re-tighten, also if that doesn't help the front earth strap or one of them at East on the front outrigger under a front wheel arch. The earth on the transfer box if poor can create the most weird lighting and electrical issues imaginable. As previously suggested only two relays are LED. (Mine's RDX) It should work with regular lights too no problems. Ideally though for regular lights you'd want a standard relay and LED lights an LED relay. You can also try removing the trailer socket electrically too. |

Strip out the trailer socket likely to be full of crud. Had similar problems on numerous occasions, always found crud inside the socket. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.

Just reading this thread...I have an indicator issue...the hazards all work...but the indicators have packed up ???

Check the hazard switch plug is firmly home from behind.

Fuse blew on hazard circuit and kept blowing till I unplugged the front left indicator unit.
All indicators...do not work.....All light up when hazard buttton pressed ? will check that switch. |
