Back from the Western Front
With it being 100 years since the Great War I thought I'd take the Landy for a look-see

Just a few thousand of our boys who never came home. RIP

This cat was laid on the grave of a 15 year old lad - as if asleep on the bottom of his master's bed. Very moving.

One of the many small cemeteries that dot the landscape. Men were buried where they fell.

Also stayed in one of the larger hotels - and noticed what was propped up against the post when we checked out!

I've always fancied a trip to see both the WW1 and WW2 notable sites.

Are they well signposted/easy to find or would paying for a tour be worth the extra cost? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone

I don't know anybody who's been on a tour.
I just headed to Ypres (Ieper) and picked up a free driving guide from the museum in the Cloth Hall. There's loads of info once you're there. Just go and explore!

From memory Albert has a good museum in the town.
The Lochnagar Crater is still an impressive sight even after several years of slow natural backfilling.
The Thiepval memorial is truly moving and there's a few German cemeteries around which are worth visiting to contemplate the utterly different style of remembrance they employ. 2005 110 XS - Cairns Blue "Bertha" - Gone, and sorely missed

I live in the Ypres - area, If you go to the Tourist office in the centre of town, you can find several routes going by the most important places . In my opinion if you want to see everything, take a few days to discover the Ypres - area.
And don't forget the last post , Always so impressive

Even better to go just outside Ypres, the little villages have great restaurants and bars , in my opinion much better than a lot of tourist traps in the center of Ypres...

Whenever I'm passing Ypres I stop of for the Last Post. Done it several times now. It's posible to be present at the cemetary and still make the last ferry from Calais back to Blighty.

Another great place is the St Nazaire submarine pens. Very moving. We stopped off there on the way back from a boys trip a couple of years ago. A quick impromptu history lesson and another location ticked off my list of places to go and visit 110 D250 SE HT
