Immobilisation while away on holidays
Hi all,

I have a 300Tdi and off to sun myself for a couple of weeks tomorrow. Although my Defender can't be seen from the road I'm keen to reduce the risk of theft whilst I'm away. I can't get it in the garage so was wondering if anyone has any tips for immobilising it in some way.

Other that taking the wheels off (it might come to that Laughing ) I'm struggling to think of anything.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Andy

Set up a geofence if you have a tracker.

For a bit of time but zero cost how about removing the battery and every fuse in it? Would certainly slow them down and eliminate a simple break in and drive away? Obviously would stop any alarm working though so would have to weigh up benefits vs down sides? just a thought...

edit: axle stands and remove all wheels as well?
Again a bit of hassle but you might relax better on holiday?

Front seat(s) out, steering wheel off? Not feasible as a daily routine, but as a one off to increase chances of it being there when you get back...

I always take the OSF wheel off if we're away for a few days and leave it on axle stands. Hopefully it'll put them off if it's obviously going to be hard work to tow or drive. We've taken other precautions but this is the only obvious one.

Pedal box lock, steering wheel off, selector leavers off. You could always take the steering rod off and the front prop that would make it hard to drive away. All these are easy to remove and only a few bolts but can really be effective, just remember to leave the transfer box in low ratio and NOT in diff-lock.

Removing the ECU will prevent it being started and with no quick fix, other than that consider a secure carpark nearby. Oops 300tdi Embarassed Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Wheel off is a good idea

300's don't need electric to run but the fuel solenoid does, maybe disconnect that too ?

Either take 2 wheels off or a wheel and the spare.....that way they cant use the spare to replace the wheel you've removed Wink

Local authority quality wheelclamp.

http://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/wheel...clamp.html

Fits perfectly on a Defender, and is a local authority approved design.
