Hi folks,
As above, a bit esoteric and specialised perhaps, but here's the 'why'. I've had a 'Puma' Safety Devices internal roll cage in my car for 2 or 3 years. I've been concerned about how the rear hoop for this splays out towards the windows, particularly because I've wanted to fit FR gullwing windows. I 'think' they would have worked, but I wasn't entirely sure. So, I bought a Tdi-era cage from Safety Devices, and did the swap yesterday. All good - no issues at all until I came to refitting the seat-belt reels for the front seats. The bolts just won't thread into the mountings on the cage. However, they have been fitted into the 'Puma' cage for the last 2 or 3 years. I'm also pretty confident these are the original seatbelts. I don't remember changing them at all, and I've had the car 20 years - though the older my memory gets, anything's possible. In any event, they fit into the one cage, not in the other. I have emailed Safety Devices, but this is a bit important. This is my 'daily driver' and at the moment I don't have front seatbelts. It's obviously a fine pitch thread, but anyone got any ideas? Has this thread ever changed? I'd like to think it's metric, but perhaps this is one of those 'hangover' things that was never modernised? Scratch that. I was being too cautious - which I suppose isn’t a bad thing with seatbelts.
To fit the cage, I’d had to shorten the seatbelt bolt (with the cage it goes through against the toe panel). I did this before I had a taper thing for my drill, so I’d left a bit of a burr. Came home tonight, wee taper made, and then just a little less caution putting a spanner on it - went in OK. Is there any way to delete a post/topic? This doesn’t really tell anyone anything.
