Wales 2007 Defender 90 Other CSW Trident Green
A lot depends on the ambient temperature such as if it is freezing or a hot sunny day. However the average temperature of the water entering the radiator of a fully warmed up 200TDi engine is approximately in the region of 86°-88° C normal running. This temperature will rise to 91°C when pulling up a long steep incline. If towing on a long steep incline the temperature will often rise to 98° C and my advice if this happens is go easy and when you reach the top of the incline pull over and let the engine cool down a little.

A rough guide is that usually on your thermostat will be a temperature mark saying what temp it will open at. The standard fitment 200TDi thermostat will open at roughly 88 deg C.

I believe that Land Rover also fitted a thermostat that opened at 74°C for Hot Climates For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
