Replacing brake fluid. Any pitfalls with ABS?
I turned down the offer of replacing the brake fluid for £84 this week at my third year service as I though that sounded a lot of money for a simple job I could do myself.

I've bled the brakes on plenty of older vehicles before, but never one with ABS.

Is it as straightforward as this post ?

My plan is to :

Draw out as much of the old fluid from the master cylinder reservoir as I can using a syringe without allowing any air to get into the cylinder ports.
Top up the master cylinder with fresh fluid.
Starting with the rear callipers first, do the old "down", "up" routine with my son on the brake pedal and me cracking open the calliper bleed nipples one at a time using my old faithful silicon brake bleeding tube attached to the nipple. Monitoring the reservoir as we go.

Anything I need to be aware of with the ABS, or any other pitfalls before I start? Sad

As ever, any advice much appreciated.

I've changed the brake fluid in my Td5 Disco the way you described, no problems. If you drain it all I seem to remember that you'll need a Nanocom or similar to operate all the valves etc in the ABS. Don't let air in and you shouldn't have to let it out!

YES that will work. I did mine that way a few months ago.. just on my own.

I had trouble using a vacuum bleeder, would not suck through.. some sort of restriction. Also struggled pumping with engine off.. so I started the engine and pumped up and down, worked a treat. 1953 80"
