Well, following much fretting I drained the oil tonight and got 7.5 litres out
![]() I have put back 7 litres and this has brought the level up to 1/2 way between lower and upper mark. The oil had no evidence of diesel that I could tell so feel much happier. But....why was the oil showing slightly above the upper mark as when I serviced it. it was just below upper level ![]() The only thing I could think of is the camshaft seal was replaced two wks ago and the garage could have topped up the oil or its diesel ![]() |

To be 100% sure.. you could send a sample of the old oil out to a lab for analysis.

Your likely to be right but I will hold off for the next few days to see if there is further evidence.
Thank for the link though...appreciate that. |

Update
since I drained the oil and put it back (all but 1/2 litre) the oil has remained steady at halfway between upper and lower mark!!! ![]() Guess the independent garage when they replaced crankshaft seal topped up the oil but didn't tell me! Anyway happy days. |

Funnily enough mine had just been ser iced when i bought it and the oil level did the same and i removed half a litre. Now ive just serviced it and filled it to exactly the max marker, just driven it to work and the oil level is about the same height as after the last service.
Im guessing the oil must take a while o drain to the sump which makes it look right at 1st and then higher later. ![]() 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

put a few drops of the oil on a piece of clean normal printing paper, if there is diesel in there, it will seperate on the paper, i.e. there will be a black circle in the middle of oil then it will generate a bigger circle around of like a blue/ lighter colour if there is diesel in there.. nice simple free test..
