Entreq
As some may have read in a different thread started by kitoper, we visited Entreq yesterday. Impressive. Not going to comment too much right now, but we left the SVX there for installation of a handful of upgrades, and for some finetuning/corrections of a few minor issues on the truck which only a detailed gent like Olaf will notice.
More details after all will be said and done, but here is a little preview. Cool
Eric

One thing I learned yesterday, is that as soon as my truck is off warranty, it will get some Entreq modifications under the hood. Until then, Entreq on the body. Thumbs Up

Progress report. Airflow Kit, Intercooler, and bonnet security hinges installed today. Continues tomorrow with other upgrades....
Olaf mentioned that when he took the old intercooler pipes off, the rubber of one of them was really hardened up and would be a splitting problem in the making. Keep in mind that the truck now has 67k km, and that same pipe already once split at about 40k km, and was then replaced like for like by my dealer. So installing this stainless Airflow Kit now seems very timely.
Here a few pictures. Do not have a picture yet of the intercooler installed....

Old intercooler, new Entreq intercooler, and old standard intercooler pipes.

Further, my door rubbers which were pretty good, but not perfectly fitting, have been improved further today. My front right door (passenger door in my case) which never perfectly closed tightly aligned with the body has been corrected today. Don't know why, but my dealer who looked into this, never seemed to be able to get it right before.

As said, more installations will be done tomorrow, but in the meantime Olaf and I are already discussing a second visit to Entreq for a very important tailor made reliability upgrade which needs preparation by Olaf for my specific case....

'Assembled in Germany'....Intercooler I think is Austrian? Nice hinges and glad they worked out for you with regards to size. Nice one! Thumbs Up

If it is as it looks, the same intercooler as myself? Alive also supply the same 'Ultimate' one rebranded from Chiptech. They make for several suppliers who stick their own name on them for a price. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

smb, that's a tough call, yes? Laughing

I know what I think about Entreq gear for a long time already and having met Olaf now, I am impressed by his knowledge, skills and his drive to perfection all round, but better to leave everybody make up their own mind about that.

Now, my engine bay, thank you, I think it is pretty clean all right, but look at the picture of the engine bay of the ICE in the post here above by bpman.... Jeezz, that's what I call clean. I got work to do before the big Swiss Defender celebration meeting in Safenwil on July 4th. Laughing
Now, I think between the ICE and my SVX there must be something like a difference of +50.000km, so I am not doing all too bad I think. Whistle

Eric, that's some serious tech you're installing. I'd be interested to hear your feedback as I have been thinking along the lines of BAS Power Tune and Allisport Intercooler plus hoses. The radiator, I think K9F said it is Austrian, seems to have very thick fins/leaves, not sure what you would call them, compared to the Allisport. Keen to know how they compare... Question Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Monsieur Le Grenadier,

What I am doing here is not more than what I call "reliability upgrades". I am not the least interested in any tune whatsoever. The standard power and torque is just fine for me as I consider the Defender not to be an equivalent of say, a Golf GTI, but I just want to be able to comfortably cruise around, including driving on highways at 120 kph maximising the torque available, and with respect for all other standard components like drive line, etc... That being said,

1. I do believe that an engine running with coolant temps mostly in the 80°s range is perfect for the engine longevity, better than engines often running close to 100°. For that purpose I have replaced the standard thermostat by the here well discussed PEL500110 version.
2. I also believe that it is ok to improve the efficiency of an engine without really tune it. The upgraded Entreq intercooler will be doing just that as with the much larger cooling surface the inbound air should be quite a bit cooler than before, so more dense air means more oxygen to improve combustion. If this gives me 1 or 2 more HP on its own, fine. By the way, that intercooler apparently is not Austrian, but German made. Could well be that Alive is buying and marketing the same, leave to work out each for themselves the best total economics of getting it and installing it. One remark as to the quality of this intercooler, look at the pictures, they speak for themselves I think.
3. Then the Entreq Airflow Kit. It took quite a while for Entreq to bring this item back on line, but for me that means a real reliability upgrade. As said above, when my truck was about 3 years old, one of the standard rubber intercooler pipes split, and this was replaced under warranty by a like for like LR pipe. I would prefer this not to happen again, so here comes the Airflow Kit in play. As you have read above, Olaf said that one of the two standard pipes he removed had hardened up to the point where it was another potential split in the making. That risk is over and done with now.
By the way, and this for the Puma 2.2 drivers where the intercooler pipes seem a real serious problem. I understand an Entreq version for this may well be coming. You can see it on their site already, but not for sale yet.

Voilą, that's all I am doing technically, no real tune for me. But as we all know, without a tune, there is a lot more that we can do to keep our trucks in shape, and to gradually further improve them. Thumbs Up
