P1103
Well, so far so good or at least I thought.

Last week the EML decided to make it`s presence known. Up to now the cars been fine, and still drives ok.
As I left work. Cold start the eml came on. So I drove it into the workshop connected the tester, read out the only fault code listed. P1103 Mass air flow sensor in range but higher than expected.
I cleared the code and went home. After a 14 hour shift I was`ent going to start faffing with it.
On the way home the eml stayed off and the car drove fine no loss of power and no strange noises.
Four days later the light came on again. Again cold start, so back into the workshop. Connect the tester read out code P1103. Again. So I listed the data list from the tester, removed the MAF and placed it in a cup of Electrical contact cleaner for 15 minutes.

In the mean time had a cuppa and blew up my tyres and checked the levels.

I gently blew the sensor dry, removed the Boost pressure sensor for a quick check, that was nice and clean. The egr valve is still making it`s normal chukka, chukka x5 routine. At the same speed so I think it`s ok.

Once I had refitted the MAF the car drove home better than ever, it`s a bit quicker off the mark too.
Yesterday it came back on so I assume it`s come back. And I need a new MAF sensor.

My question is does anyone know what the correct parameter for the MAF is at idle speed and with just the ignition on.
I`ve enclosed the parameter on the tester after cleaning the sensor. At the time the picture was taken the engine was at idle speed. With just the ignition on the MAF sensor displayed 3 G/S. Which I assume is Grams per second.

Thanks in advance martin.

Below is a live data session after replacing the MAF sensor on my Puma. You can work out the curve based on rpm and load. Thumbs Up

Just fitted the new MAF sensor. Andrew page £ 42.00 all in Very Happy

Once it was replaced I cleared the stored codes. Checked thru the ecu data list.
The EGR valve is going nuts, the MAF is reading much quicker. I know the refresh rate on the snap on solus is`ent the quickest,
But everything is measuring better / faster.
On the short drive home the car is much quicker, especially in mid range throttle response. My values now reflect yours.
However my EGR is still connected, how long it will carry on working now, it`s got something to do we`ll see Laughing

While I write this the other half is looking some what dismayed at me watching a set of figures on a screen and getting excited by them. Many thanks for your time in posting the video clip, it`s going to be saved for reference.

Thanks again martin. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

Hiya munch. Sorry for the delay. Been working all hours this week.
The maf is made by Hella. So far it`s all working ok, and my new friend the eml is a distant memory.
I think a bosch one was 50 quid. There was a cheaper one for £25. But decided to give that a miss.

Hope this helps, I`ve no idea now much Andrew page stock for the defender. But would assume most transit parts cross over to a point.

All the best, off to bed... Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.
