110 Double cab to 110 utility hardtop conversion?
As title suggests. I would like to change my double cab to a hardtop utility.

Is it doable? I was thinking of leaving the rear tub on as it's quite damaged around the mud flaps area and just getting a roof and the panel sides, back door also. Anything I might have to consider and how do I go about it with the log book?

Cheers wil

Quite feasible and, if you don't intend to change the rear tub, quite easy.

You will need to find a roof, the rear side panels (SIII 88" is an option here) and a rear door (it is virtually impossible to find a "cat flap" lift up flap for the rear now).

Your take-off roof, assuming that it is in good condition, will be worth more than you think, and certainly more than the replacement roof. If you are lucky, the sale of the DC roof will pay for all the panels you need.

Not sure how you stand informing DVLA, generally they don't seem interested in this sort of thing. They are more likely to be interested if you take an N1/light goods vehicle and convert it to something which falls into a higher road fund licence category though.

You will of course need to notify your insurer.

Am I right in thinking that the side panels are just bolted on with a seal between it and the tub and likewise the roof?

Yes.

There may be some (minor) alterations required if you use SIII sides, I am not entirely sure. There are others here who have done this conversion, or who have converted SW sides into USW sides and no doubt will be able to advice in more detail.

It all just bolts together, however. The great joy of the current Defender - who knows if it will be true of the new one!
