Consider THIS OK not as cheap as the ebay offerings but saves dropping the fuel tank.

Tank withdrawal heater for Land Rover Defender Td5 2.5, 2.4 and Td4 Td4 2.2

The tank removal for the Land Rover Defender 90/110/130 Td5 2.5, 2.4 and Td4 Td4 2.2 enables the supply of the auxiliary heater with diesel without the time-consuming and labor-intensive eremoval of the fuel tank.

The removal of the fuel is carried out by the cutting of the hose between fuel filler and tank of the vehicle, making it possible without removal or piercing of the tank. The tank removal is suitable for different heaters, including Webasto Airtop 2000 and Eberspächer Airtronic D2.

The tank removal is flexibly bendable, about, you can control whether the auxiliary heating can drain the tank completely of the vehicle or if a fuel reserve to remain.

We can supply these to order.

Thanks Guys.

Munch, just thinking that is basicly what I want to do with the pipe in the beginning?

Leeds, I had thought about that item but I'm hopeing soon to add a wing tank so would have to come out again which would make it an expensive exercise. Thanks for the tip though Thumbs Up Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I do not know if it will fit with a wing tank or not. Embarassed

110 standard tank is about 80 litres, a wing tank is about 48 litres. That combination with a Nakayanenga fuel pick up for a heater might not be possible.

120 litre main tanks are available which will work with the Nakatanenga fuel pick up.

Standard towing equipment or fuel tank guards does not work with a 120 litre tank.

It is not possible to get a tank guard for a wing tank.

However it is possible to get both the 120 litre fuel tank and wing tank double skinned on the bottom.

It is important to think of all your likely requirements in the future. Not all after market modifications are compatible with each other.

So try to think of your likely needs in the future. Is range more important then the after market heater. Do you need tank protection or not? Rear winch or not?

So spend some time to try and work out what are the important requirements for yourself and then try to work out the best solution for yourself.

Thanks Brendan Thumbs Up

I want to go with a wing tank at some point in the longer term future hence why I don't think the nakatanga part will be suitable for my needs. I don't want to go for the 120l tank as you have quite rightly pointed out you have to change the towing arrangements and that makes an expensive item even more expensive!

I really don't need a rear winch and not sure I can even fit one as there isn't much space behind the fuel tank and the crossmember, plus I should probably put one on the front before I do the back! But again that's for later on in the scheme of things.

Right now I want to get the heater plumbed in and set up so I can look at doing some snowboarding in the winter months and be warm in the winter here.

I basically want to find the thread of the tiny pipe pictured at the beginning of the tread so i can make up a fitting which i can screw into it and feed a pickup pipe down it and then use that as the pickup pipe for the heater as to my mind it is the simplest way of doing it surely?

Something like this
With the thicker part screwing into the tank, the thinner part facing outwards with the pickup pipe pushed through then glued/fixed in place so I can screw a coupling onto it which will accept the feed pipe to the heater? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197
