thanks...but will the odesy (looks like 1500 in the pic) fit with the standard battery - i didnt think it did??
I dont want 2 What about (pains) optima yellow top As i get normal batters (new) for about £10-£20 any other size ideas? Mike |

I had 2 optimas but they didnt fit unless i changed all the battery lengths when i changed the orientation with the D44 base.
I think you will really struggle to get anything other than a small 12v motorcycle battery in there in the standard configuration and im not sure you would get the longevity you would need without a split charge etc You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things |

You can fit a standard battery and an oddesy in at the same time, but it is tight. They are great batteries.

 thanks andy. have you fitted a winch isolator in there as well? my isolator is located behind the standard battery in your picture, i.e at the front of the passenger seat. was wondering if you combo would allow my isolator to remain where it is. 
If it can be done then, I think I will do the same as you before my next trip |

Thats along the lines of what im thinking!
I know you can fit the standard battery in 3 orientations so far (as shown in that picture, the reverse and the standard position) Fitting the standard battery as shown from my calculations leaves a reasonable amount of forward "room" Im sure ive seen a battery (normal type), slotted next to the standard where the depression goes. The main thing to make sure is that the install is totally secured, i see Landy man has used some additional support braces to make sure nothing moves around negating the possibility of battery shorting.
Good use of space there as it is Effing tight!
Landy Andy is that a Puma battery box or an earlier defender?, im sure my TD5 had a lot more room than the current puma i have? You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things |

The set up that is in that photo is an early photo of my 04 reg Td5 battery box, before fitting second Odessey. The original battery needed to be at the front of the compartment as is too tall for the bat box when on the twin mounting plate.

Cool Andy...what i thought though TD5 battery box is bigger than the puma..MSE check Povmans..im sure you cant mount the batteries that way without changing the length of the cabling at least You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Cable is a piece of cake the + reaches - as you can see. The negative wont reach directly, but that isnt a problem as it only goes to 2 places under the car so an easy one to extend in a variety of ways Other than that (and leveling the box floor) i cant see any other issue?? - i know where all the links etc are going plenty of space for them (my secret for now ) and the there looks to be enough space for the + fused link and measuring the battery box it is more than wide enough (the slope allows extra space at the sides the battery wouldnt be able to use.
