Door card stays on, use a small flat screwdriver (with tape on the end for protection.) and open the plastic tabs each side. They open from inwards outwards.
Then underneath tighten the Philips type screws. This is the handle it's self, no removal of the doorcard required at all. |

Unless it's the exterior handle, then yes the door card would need to come off 👍
Fairly easy job, just need to be careful when popping the door card off, the plastic clips are notoriously fragile. It comes away from door body or door card? If its just loose on the door card custom90steve has your answer.
If the handle is lose on the door itself (but is tight against door card) then you need to follow custome90steve directions but take off handle, then as rustyboxx says carefully remove door card and re-secure - could be that you've already got some broken door card fittings (they are as previously stated weaker than Starbucks Tea...) ------------------------------- 👲🏻 1986 ex-Military 90 NAD 2.5 Soft Top. How old? Be prepared to have to replace the complete handle. They are made with a brass insert in the plastic into which a coarse threaded screw in wound from inside the door to hold it on. The brass inserts can come loose and pull out and the rearmost one is almost always seized too. I just replaced 4 doors for a mate and had to buy 4 new handles as not one of them would unscrew without destroying the handle.
The Brtipart handles are not that expensive but don't feel as sturdy as the originals n(which are about 10 times the price) |

Hope the job goes well. It's easy enough except for the pesky door card clips/fasteners ![]() The 'fir tree' type fasteners are easy and cheap enough to buy, and I'd get a bag before you start, but also watch out for where they slot in onto the actual door card and door. Their mountings may need some repair. Given their temperamental nature, I also added some discreetly fitted number plate screws (black caps) to the door card and there are no rattles or creaks - at least on the door cards anyway ![]() Whilst the door card is off - there's also an opportunity to give anything in sight a bit of tic and maintenance ![]() Best of luck and all the best for Xmas, Will |
