Windscreen wiper washers
Just a bit of encouragement to those considering this mod. As K9F says, on the Puma it's easy to pull off the plastic washer nozzle housing to reveal the 2 cm stub (it takes a hell of a lot of pulling so don't be scared):

The stub is a funny shape but the 1 cm nearest the frame is perfectly adequate to attach a piece of 8 mm tubing for a windscreen washer conversion:

Note how the washer tube threads through the spring.
This way, if the fancy wiper washers fail, you can replace the original system in a few seconds (as long as you keep the plastic thingy in the cubby).
I still need to heat shrink the tubes to the wiper arm (getting rid of the 2 cable ties) and "black out" all connections but first impressions are massive improvement on the motorway when most of the screenwash normally goes on the cars behind Embarassed

Does the TD5 have the same plastic thing with the nozzles that pulls off at the front (see top pic)?
If so, I expect it would work the same.

I know it's a more elegant solution if you remove the dash and make the T joint inside (see http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic11649....er+washers ) but I wanted to make it as simple (and reversible) as possible. My Defender isn't pretty anyway. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

i found these tended to freeze on mine. i went for another option and mounted two of the std nozzles from the dash. so 4 jets (2 each side) one low on the screen one high. low one keeps the water on the screen at faster speeds. also increase in volume gets it cleaner quicker. Cheers

Plus one for the 2x twin standard jets, put in the opposite hand wiper spindle holes. Keeps things really tidy, one of those not noticed mods that makes you wonder why LR don't do this in the first place.

Some nice setups there Thumbs Up
The freezing shouldn't be a problem as I use -30 screenwash and HeatShot but I'll be interested to know how they deal with motorway sh*t thrown up by lorries-over-slush... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

On my tdi200 I often used to find them sat on the bonnet waiting for me in the morning when there was a good frost. I put hoses to each wiper blade but admittedley they acted more as dribble bars than jets I much prefer what I have now with the 2 washer jets.

Yes. Ive done a siilar mod on my 1996 300tdi. But you can leave the nozzle in place and just pull the pipe off it from the inside, either through the ashtray or by removing the top of the dash. Then fit a 'T' piece and a length of pipe running behind the dash and then out by the sides of each wiper arm, there are holes just in the right place if you look. T piece and pipe available from BnQ, they sell it as plant watering pipe.

I then fead the pipes through each hole (the bulkhead is double skinned here so takes a little time) and out to each arm. I then fited a wiper spray arm from a Peugeot which I tie clipped to the wipers. I get a 4 jet spray from each wiper directly onto the windscreen.

I cant claim credit for this mod, it was someone elses idea.

I'll take some better photos tomorrow if you like, but in the meantime in this photo you can just about see where the pipes are exiting through my bulkhead, although at the time of taking this pic they werent connected to the wipers ..

Although other variants are surely more elegant, this external fix is to avoid dash-removal, re-plumbing etc. and so the system can go back to bog-standard in seconds, just by clipping the plastic nozzle back on. The OP was really just to prove this, as I was a bit nervous perched on the bonnet trying to yank it off.
The system works well (although I may look for even better jets sometime), and looks perfectly okay in the light of day - flash photography at night is so unflattering Rolling Eyes
I'll take some more photos soon with the heat shrink on the wiper arms and everything tidy and in place Thumbs Up

Edit - forgot to include this at the top. The pipe offcuts are just for "artistic" value, not "to scale"...

The silicone pipe is 8mm internal diameter (fits firmly over the nozzle stub) the "T" is 8mm and the reducers are 8mm/4mm

Not fitted yet, but I have some 'Storm wiper blades, which have the jets attached and are the right length for the Defender. They were purchased on ebay.

Razz Please can you tell me the full name?
I couldn't find any 13" ones and now just looked for "storm wiper" on eBay but got no washing ones...

Cheers
Matt

p.s. I've seen a few wiper arm kits but they attach low on the wiper arm and don't get the wash in the right place. Mine are attached to the wiper blade itself, directly in line-of-sight.
p.p.s Just updated the original photos. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Was considering buying these ... Cheers, Vincent

Yep - saw those but they are so low down (if fitted as standard) - I guess other cars' wipers are set up differently. These are mine:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/271097631269?ssPage...1439.l2649
They are also supposed to fit on the wiper arm but the Defender arm is too thin anyway. My final setup was screwing them onto the blade just above the arm connection (see above).
They now squirt pretty much in the right place for my vision and in a band about 6" high (I might make the lower hole a bit wider).
Driving at 150 km/h this morning they put the wash just where it needed to be with no losses Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
