Is it a brand new vehicle you are buying. If so many insurance companies offer new for old for the first one or two years.
On a defender they don't lose much money and the sad fact is you won't get another new one. So you'll be looking at second hand ones if the worst happens. I felt it was a lot of money and being vat registered it wasn't worth it for me, |

Clemmo
I got mine through MHC finance on the RRS forum, they are site sponsors. I got 4 years for the price of three can't remember how much I paid now though. But it was he'll of a lot cheaper than any main dealer. That was for my sport that I had at the time, and you've just reminded me I need to change it for the defender. |

^^^^ +1 for NFU, covers new for old for the first 2 years. You can then buy an after-market GAP product if you feel you need it for the 3rd + years
Its a massive margin spinner for the dealers, hence why they offer it. Along with super-duper paint protection for a few hundreds while its much better to do your own detailing. cheers simon |

Hi Clemmo,
And if you do want GAP insurance over the top of your regular insurance for whatever reason also look at GAP insurance provided by Autotrader; waaaaay cheaper the LR Cheers |

Check the small print of any insurance that is supposed to include GAP.
When I worked at the main stealers a friend of mine bought a new 90 from us. The day after he collected it he was towing a trailer up the A1 and totalled the 90. He bought it on finance , the screen price was £20000, total finance payable was £27000. The car insurance he had was supposed to include GAP......it did but only for £3000. So he had to find the £4000 deficit and a deposit for another 90. OUCH Personally I would get a dedicated GAP policy. 2003 Td5 90 2013 sport hse 2012 700 raptor quad 2012 siromer 4x4 tractor |

Shop around. As I found when buying my Evoque, the Land Rover dealer offer for GAP insurance was not particularly competitive. It can be purchased elsewhere after you have picked the car up (upto 6 months later I think)
£700 seems steep, I paid I think £350 - perhaps less car value, but doubt the Defender was twice the price. |

Mine was £350 via main dealer on a new 110.
That seems a lot, another dealer I dealt with also offered it for £400 . |

Did a lot of research on this subject when we purchased the Porsche.
In the end this lot worked out to be the best but please check as it was a couple of years ago. https://www.directgap.co.uk/?gclid=CNOw3f7q_cMCFeoSwwodZggA0A Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Thanks...great ideas there.
I've just spoke with NFU and for sure its is correct they will give you Invoice value for the first 2 years in the event of total loss. The Insurance seems a little more pricey ( than Adrian Flux) but the policy looks very solid. Seems a no brainer TBH?? Any experiences with NFU? Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... I am with Nfu. They are more expensive but the policy includes everything I need and the three trailers. I have no problems with them, asked about winch no increase in policy. So yes more expensive but includes a lot. It was the invoice thing that sealed the deal for me. Also no problems with insuring me for 25k miles a year.

I switched to NFU a couple of years back as I was fed up with Flux increasing my insurance every year by an exorbitant amount.
NFU were far cheaper, did a good deal when I purchased the TD5 (double policy), two year full replacement cost when I switched from the DC to a new 90 and they don't increase my premium by silly money every year. I am sure others will give you tales of doom and gloom about NFU but my experience with them has only positive.
