Hi Tim
Had a similar problem on my 110. It took a visit from a LR engineer to sort it out, and the fix was very easy The Tdci's have the same adjustment system as the TD5's under the bonnet where the cylinder is. Apparently this was not mentioned in a lot of the documentation hence the reason the dealer could not find the problem. Hi Tim
Second post from this forum post. http://forum.lro.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=39674 The Tdci clutch pedals are supposed to be set for life but, sadly, that is not the case as I found out when my 110 was off the road for six weeks trying to get it fixed. It was my second new clutch in a year, the first was fine when fitted and then fell to bits ! Dealer replaced it and I had the same problem as you have, clutch bit about 1/2" off the floor, either on or off and clutch judder. Dealer did numerous things on the advice of LR, took clutch out and put it into another vehicle, special pressure bleed etc etc all because the clutch travel is set for life. After replacing the clutch, all pipework and numerous other bits, LR sent an engineer out and he fixed it within 30 minutes by adjusting the pedal travel as per the link above. Make sure you remove mats etc, measurements are from the bare floor.

I thought I had the death rattle and required a new clutch after the above symptoms albeit intermittent (and recently more bad that good!!) I hope this is the fix...... - ironic too I'd come on here to look for death rattle and before I did looked at new posts only to find this Morepower - you have a clutch again. does that also mean the clatter when you turn off / clatter from underneath has gone too ? |

MY12 Workshop manual states:
Check distance from lower edge of clutch pedal to down position. Correct measurement is 135 mm (5.31 in). Adjust master cylinder push rod lock nuts untill 135mm (5.31 in) is achieved. Tighten lock nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb.ft). Move the clutch pedal to the fully down position. Tighten nylon nut securing push rod to clutch pedal trunnion to 23 Nm (17 lb.ft) . Install a new gasket to cover plate and secure with the 6 screws. Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (2 lb.ft). I think the adjustment is essentialy the same as the TD5 but it looks like they measure the range of movement of the pedal rather than the floor to pedal distance at rest. |

I had the death rattle from the clutch like many on here... The Dealer replaced the clutch under warranty... However, they forgot or didn't adjust the clutch to take into account the new clutch fitment...
Interesting to note that even with the new clutch fitted that the truck drove horribly... Once the clutch was adjusted as per Bob's info... The snatch and clunk has pretty much disappeared... Which leaves me to think that the rev hang etc is timed based on clutch position. I expect they've set the clutch engagement/rev hang to match... My truck drives perfectly now, which it most certainly didn't with the clutch out of adjustment... thanks morepower.
so following the clutch replacement did it still rattle or did the clutch adjustment only resolve the biting / clunk problem? |

did they replace the master cyl ?
you should not have to adjust the pedal just because it had a new clutch fitted only if the master cyl was touched |

perhaps the clutch was poorly adjusted from the start?

maybe , but should never need to adjust unless the master cyl has been changed

So assuming it was set up right it should never need adjusting unless you change the master cylinder.
So my on/off clutch action which is becoming more frequent is more likely the clutch plate needing replacement rather than a simple adjustment of the clutch pedal. I live in hope. |
