No need to weld nuts on a Dixon Bate, it's thick enough to drill and tap 2 M8 holes either side then fit two M8 screws with a lock nut to stop it rocking on the adjusting pin. "You are never to old to learn something new" |

![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge For those after a simple extension to bring out the towbar far enough to clear the rear spare I found this on Amazon. It’s obviously no use if you still want to tow when bike rack isn’t in use…£24 |

I found this on the 4x4 overlander site Nakatanenga Cycle Carrier Adapter .Cost 185 but you can attach and remove when required . I need something to carry 2/3 Heavy downhill bikes currently I'm using a Dave cooper set up designed for a motorbike but can be removed quickly

Hi Leeroy, I’m having the same issue as everyone else! How far out from the rear X-member does this put the tow ball? Does it clear the spare wheel? Thanks John In Yorkshire, but near enough to the Lancashire border! |

I fitted this extension today. Haven’t used it yet but it seems v strong It bolts on to the standard tow ball and extends by 250 mm

That's a lot of cantilever on the tow ball but okay for a bike rack I suppose. "You are never to old to learn something new"

I too would be worried about the load imposed on the 2 bolts with those simple bolts on extensions, fine for a bike rake put perhaps not so good with 100kg vertical towbar load from a caravan, (or more with some trailers). DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Yep. Totally agree. The part is specifically designed for bike carrier and 80kg load. No more than that and certainly not for normal towing. 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

It explicitly states not to be used for towing - purely for the bike rack ![]() |

Hi Vitesse. Has this help up ok? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but with a bigger rack (https://pbr.co.uk/products/wheel-support-bike-rack) and concerned about the leverage on the first tow ball. Many thanks, Paul. |

Vitesse, one more question. Is it the 200mm or the 250mm length extender? Thanks |
