Ive ordered a defender and was told dont leave it too long as production is winding down already. As i wanted the black alloys they had a shortage of them for a bit apparently. I will be disappointed if there is a final edition after i get mine. But when can you trust what a salesman says to you.

There have been rumours about a final edition special for some time. Indeed, I know a number of dealers have already taken deposits from forum members for these (obviously allocations yet to be determined) so it wouldn't surprise me if they're all pre-sold already. Whether there will be any other specials is a little debatable - there aren't a huge number of bits that LR could bolt on from the parts bin? I don't think they'll find themselves in the same boat as a more mainstream vehicle maker with a wide assortment of entertainment systems / seats / trim / electric gubbins. Perhaps limited to a bit of leather, contrast trim, tints, etc? |

Here is an interesting e-mail which LR France apparently sent to their dealers in October. They basically confirm that 2015 production will be largely limited to various limited editions, but more importantly they say that last date of registration of new Defenders will be 30-09-2015....
Bien cordialement. Juan-Miguel Orozco Zone Manager Jaguar Land-Rover JAGUAR LAND ROVER FRANCE SAS unquote I guess the Euro 6 norms are implemented EU wide + Switzerland, so that includes the UK. I have looked at various EU commission websites, and everywhere find back that for diesel cars and vans, including light commercial vehicles (except the heaviest category, see bottom if this post) the Euro 6 norm becomes mandatory for registration of new cars as of 01-09-2015.... See below quote Euro 6 will set even lower emission limits. It will be binding for the type approval of vehicles as of 1 September 2014 and for the registration and sale of new types of cars and vans as of 1 September 2015 unquote http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/sectors/aut...dex_en.htm If above is correct, how to register a new Defender which is Euro 5 as of September? Maybe the last 4 months of production will all be exported to non-EU countries where Euro 6 norm will come into force at a later date? Like Singapore... http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore...8-20141230 Or Australia... https://www.dieselnet.com/standards/au/ Or, maybe that is all wrong, depends on which vehicle category a Defender really is. If as in below wikipedia listing the Defender falls in the light commercial vehicles >1760 kg max 3500 kg. (Category N1-III & N2), it would be possible to register a new one with Euro 5 norm until September 2016. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_standards Not sure what to make of all this, but believe here in Switzerland a Defender still falls in the passenger cars registry, at least mine is registered like that. Thanks Eric, JLR France’s memo is pretty unequivocal.
As an aside, other than this unique opportunity to buy the Last Edition of an iconic vehicle, anybody who buys a new car with a diesel engine (let alone a diesel engine that’s already obsolete emissions-wise), is in my opinion very short-sighted. Peter |

This matches up to what I was told
31st August 2015 will be the last registration date due to the legislation change and that subsequent production will be wound down with vehicles for the export market. Production then moved abroad and the Defender continuing to be produced but only for the non EU market Only thing that makes me question what I was told is that if current orders are already backed up to March then that would mean that they have to launch and announce the Special Models now if people are going to order them and get them delivered in time?? ^^ We (the EU countries plus Switzerland) would happily slam 100% import duty onto all Land Rovers/Range Rovers/Jags/Morgans coming from that naughty country at the other side of the channel.
Could compromise the future of the stand alone United Kingdom country's car industry, probably even the end of it... Maybe Scotland could have another vote then to separate from England and Wales, and adhere to the EU on their own. You never actually own a Defender. Now IF the UK pulled out of the EU and the EU with or without Switzerland and the EU started to put on import duties on UK goods who would lose out?
The UK currently has a trade deficit with the EU of about £6billion/month. See here Somehow I do not think Germany and France wants to lose the UK as a trading partner Now the £ is at about a 5 year high against the euro which makes imports cheaper from the EU and exports to the EU more expensive. Now JLR exports about 80% of its production now with £ at a 5 year high against the euro whereas it is at about the 5 year average against the USD, North America will probably be a more sustainable market then the EU. Then there is the emerging China and Brazil markets. Brendan |

^^ Brendan, catching on as expected. Happy new year to you too.
New years day is not the day to get into economics, high time for me to start assembling the fresh lasagne for the family now, ...and open the wine. Eric You never actually own a Defender. People can be "told" lots of things by lots of "people", who have "heard"/"read" all sortsof rumours/stuff. I am in that category from time to time!
However, what the regs are in France, or anywhere else may well be different from Country to Country. The "OFFICIAL" stance from JLR is that production will cease on 20th December 2015. Some models are already unavailable in Aus, but we have NO registration "restrictions" that will occur before the end of production. Surely someone on here has a good contact within the English Dealer Group, I'm in Aus, so can't help there. So, to stop, all the, "this that & the other", it would be good if someone, or a few, spoke to their Land Rover man to get the FACTS. I say production will finish 20th December 2015, & there will be NO problems registering a Defender before then. And I also say that transferring Defender production to anywhere else is simply "hearsay" with no basis in fact at all. Pickles. |

Basically when they're gone, they're gone! Simples
Not sure I would have been brave enough to put a deposit down and hold out for a limited edition model, especially not knowing what they're likely to be, or how much they will cost. If they're going to be last off the line then it doesn't give anyone much time if they change their mind! |

Think it's only any good to have a deposit down if you already have one, so if you don't like what's on offer it doesn't matter

My thinking - when I lodged a £500 deposit with my dealer in October 2013 - was that it was better to reserve one and possibly change my mind if it turned out to be nothing special (there’ll be plenty of others who’ll want it even if it only features the usual stickers and bolt-on parts), rather than to want one and be denied ‘cos I hadn’t lodged a deposit.
But now I really can’t be bovvered whether or not I end up with one Peter |
