It could be the egr or the turbo vains sticking slightly when hot. It could be other things but I'd look here first.

funnily enough I just emailed you pete! about the remap interface. I dont like the sound of the turbo vanes sticking, sounds expensive! Is this common? how can I eliminate that?

I would say it's the EGR playing up a bit. My last one was knackered and it had odd effects. Fitting a brand new one was like having a new 90! As it's de-grading you tend not to notice but when it's working as it should you can straight away. But only when replaced.

Hmm ok that sounds about right thanks! hopefully I want to shut it when I get my truck remapped with the interface if it can be done as every car I have ever owned with an EGR on it has given me trouble! bin the damn things I say! haha

I agree they are a PITA! I found when my old one was having issues I felt like I had to drive on the power all the time but getting no where fast. With the new EGR fitted it's just as it always should have been. That said it was warning me by putting up the MIL on the dash so it wasn't undetected. I found the early signs of it giving out was it "chattering" on idle. I don't know how handy you are with a spanner / what tools you have available but if you did go down the replacement EGR route with a bit of awkward fettling and a free day you could do it yourself.

Most of the turbo vanes only stick when the turbo is really hot after a good run or giving it some stick. If you take it for a hard drive for about 30 mins and then within about 3 mins of stopping the engine remove the circling from the turbo actuator you can sometimes then get hold of the arm that controls the turbo vanes and actuate it you may feel them sticking.
After a further few mins with the engine stopped they free off. This test is only good when the car is fully up to temp and had some hard work. As said you must test SOON after stopping the engine or it will free it's self. Some people with the speed limiter removed can still only just get to 85 mph we have seen this in some cases be caused by the turbo sticking. This may not be your problem but worth a test none the less. Pete |
