Hi, sorry to spoil your fun but...
I had a Bearmach seal in my old TD5 for about 2 weeks when I had my screen replaced a few years ago. Bloody thing leaked like a sieve - I eventually got the screen refitted with genuine land rover seal (3x price) and that never leaked again. |

Hi dnorrishill, oh hells bells dont say that my man!!! the LR seal was 5x the price, will just have to suck it and see what happens now? anyway by the looks of it I can discount the bulkhead seal as my Captain Tolley arrived this morning so I duly went out with my toast in one hand and the capatain tolley in the other as its dry for a change and applied it all along the bulkhead seal and waited, and waited, and waited but it didnt seep into any unknown cracks just sat there!! hmmm guess there are no tiny cracks then in that area so can maybe discount that thank goodness, one down and many more to go by the look of it.
Have looked this morning all along the inside of the screen seal and although grubby it looks dry but that dont mean squat really. Will have a chat with National wind screens before hand in case they dont have any suitable sealer, it will give me a chance to source somat before the day arrives, pity I cannot use sikaflex on the seal as I used that on my caravan seals which they recommend, hells tooth that stuff is the dogs whatsits but its messy and a swine to apply and get off but seals as tight as a ducks butt when on. Top Tip....A soft rag and white spirits will remove Sikaflex and give you an excellent finish. Do not use it on windscreen seal as if it ever has to come out fitting and sealing a new one will be a bain. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Hi K9F no I would never use sikaflex on the screen although its did an excellent job on the caravan awning rails, I have another top tip for using sikaflex, I found that putting it in a bucket of warm water for half an hour helps in the application as if stone cold you cannot get it out of the tube!!

Hey Hoe my 6 month old Defender (now on 6000 miles) in Land Rover dealership in Newport to have leaks sorted
- passenger side I think the door seal is the culprit - driver side the seal to the underside of the windscreen surround needs replacing Whilst in there - they are fitting genuine RAI (needed for me as I spend a lot of time on dirt tracks, constructing them for wind farms) - asked them to look at the juddering in second gear (wont hold my breath) They have loaned me a brand new 110 with only 9 miles on the clock and this does not kangaroo/judder the throttle pedal seems to be less responsive when you are slightly on the gas where mine is ever so sensitive. I may push to have the throttle peddle sensor replaced to see if this improves things |

Hi Iktank and all the guys, sorry to hear that your new defender is also leaking water, its annoying with a new vehicle and as usual while its in for repairs your without a vehicle! think I have found the problem with the water on the passenger side floor? last week I bought and fitted a snow cowl, since then it has rained quite a lot and believe this there is no water on the passenger floor!!!!! fingers crossed that the cowl is the resolve of the water problem, when the weather gets a bit better I am going to lift the centre cubby tray and remove the floor panel and have a look to see if the blower drain is blocked with rubbish which others on here have mentioned they can. If that does not cure the problem long term it looks like the next step will be the windscreen out, but at the moment all seems fine.
The door rubber on mine are by no means new and seem to fit where they touch but I do not have any leaks from that area, will possibly later in the spring or summer replace them all anyway as they tend to come off their location occasionally. Hope LR get your problem sorted soon. Regards Ole Dave |

I have the same issue with water laying on top of both front footwell mats.
I have removed the internal trim from either side of the windscreen and it's wet in both bottom corners of the windscreen. I have poured some captain tolleys in around the top of the screen rubber but am not convinced this will do it. What do others recommend for this ingress point, new windscreen seal? Thanks! |

Hi Dave, if captain tolleys has not stopped it then sadly, and I think others will say the same, the only course of action would be a new seal, I can tell you how much a LR windscreen rubber is as I checked recently, they are £68. plus I was quoted £98 for a new screen and fitting, the rubber as mentioned was in addition to that price.
When the problem with mine started I did consider taking out the screen and fitting a new glass and rubber myself as I have done that before on another vehicle years ago but not a windscreen, what put me off doing it is if I crack the screen on refitting it or it leaks its my problem!!!! if National glass who quoted me crack it its down to them to get a replacment at their cost, tricky decision Eh!!. Hope the above helps Dave, hope you solve the leak Regards Ole Dave |

Thanks Dave!
I will mull it over for a while. I can't imagine the Captain Tolley's will actually cure in the dampness behind the seal, but we'll see. Cheers |

Hello from Aus.
There's nothing worse than a leaking windscreen. I had a leaking screen in a previous car, & a panel beater friend of mine, he's bloody good at anything, a real "Mr Fix It", sorted the issue very quickly with a soft rubbery non hardening bituminous sort of stuff that he "inserted" with a gun, all along both sides of the outside of the screen,.. screen to body, & screen to glass. This gooey type stuff obviously filled up all the "gaps",... result,...didn't have to take the screen out, or renew any w/screen seals/rubber etc, & it NEVER leaked again. Pickles. |

Hi Dave and Guys, howz you Pickles? another thought Dave, after much discussion with the guys on here who have been a mine of info re my leak, some of the chaps who have had similar problems and have had the screen out mentioned that on removal a lot of dust/sludge had collected behind the seal on the inside.
Captain Tolleys in this case I doubt would work? it is good as I have used it myself as a precaution on the bulkhead seal as that could also be a possible, however, after applying Captain Tolleys around the bulkhed seal it just sat there!! the conclusion was there was nowhere for it to seep into. My guess is if you can see the damp on the inside at screen edges then no doubt its finding its way through the seal, possibly any sludge deposits acting as a capillary for the water? It would be interesting Pickles if you knew the name of the sealer the Mr Fixit used? however in reality the best route is take the screen out and give the area a good scrub before refitting the glass along with a new seal. Regards to both of you Ole Dave |
