alternator light slow to go out
I have a 1999 Td5, in the past couple of weeks when I start the engine after leaving it for a couple of days the battery light stays on for a minute or two then goes out charging fine. If I drive it then leave it for a short while (say an hour or two) then restart it all is fine! Was going to test and charge battery?

Have you got a multimeter?
Does it make any difference if you rev the engine once you've started it? We've got a something (not a Land Rover) where the alternator doesn't kick in until you give the throttle a blip. Not a problem once you get used to it.

How old is the battery? With the colder weather this is a classic indication that your battery could be on the decline. A couple of checks with a multimeter one after you've driven it and another after a couple of days standing will give you a pointer perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

The light doesn't go out after raising the revs, just takes about 2 mins on idle and it goes out. Checked the battery last night and it's only 11.8 volts so it appears that that might be the problem. The battery is on charge so if it charges up ok I'll see if that's the problem but as the battery is the one that came with the landy it's at least 4 years old

Might be worthwhile using a rejuvenating programme on something like a Ctek charger if standard lead acid battery.
