Assuming the Td5 is similar to the TDCi, the box must come out downwards. You'll need to remove the panel on the seat box between the front seats, and the centre tunnel of the floor. The crossmember under the box has to come off of course.
You can drop the unit easily on a transmission jack but it is often easier to remove the transfer box first, then the main box (definitely worth it on the Puma since it allows the notorious splined shaft to be inspected). |

If you have ramp and g box jack, it can all be done from underneath and in one unit. But is easier if you get access from above and splitting the boxes makes it much lighter. If you are just doing clutch, then leave boxes together and just move them back out the way.

Don't forget to remove the starter motor also, this is one of the most awkward parts as one nut is difficult to get to!

I am not doing the job, a garage is. Looks like I will remove the cubby box and then mud stuff tunnel as well as the carpet in preperation for the work to be done. The garage has a 4 poster. When I do them all I do is unscrew the tansfer knob lift the gaitor up the remove the main gear lever, then everything else from under neath or under the bonnet, but I have a 4 post ramp and a cradle that fits the gearbox and transfer box in one it does make life easier!
