Congrats Martin
As for this comment : I am sitting on my hands to stop myself buying anything for it - all I am doing is fitting a towbar & electrics. Resistance is futile. Get ordering ![]() 2005 Td5 TwinCab 1998 110 CSW 300tdi |

Another red defender, the only colour to choose. Love that shade too. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

7 weeks in, so well overdue another report
![]() Accessories wise, I have fitted the rear rubber mat from Dan @ Duckworth, Witter R29 tow bar, Alko tow ball and a Bearmach spare wheel cover from Steve @ Advanced Factors (waiting DEFENDER2.NET decals). Fitted bolt head caps to the towbar fixings to tidy it up, also a couple on the step mounting bolts which has stopped it fretting. The genuine 13 pin electrics set for the tow bar is awaiting fitting, need a dry day ![]() 2,000 miles done (ticked over yesterday) ![]() Click image to enlarge Modifications wise, I have upgraded to NAS/SVX type 95mm rear lamps. I have NAS lamps all round on the soft-top, and I think the visibility to the rear with the standard lamps is abysmal - the fog/spray recently has reinforced this. However, this time I've not done the usual ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Unlike most lamp conversions I have gone with coloured lamps, I think the colourless don't suit the red paintwork. The stop/tail (top) lamps are LED replacements, using the SVX mounting bases to fit the body flare correctly. So these are basically red versions of the SVX fitment. The indicators are incandescent type NAS lamps. These are mounted on NAS bases modified with two small holes drilled inside to allow self-tapping screws to mount them to the original holes in the body. I have added foam to the back in a similar style to the SVX bases. (SVX bases can't be used with incandescent lamps as the centre hole is too small). The fog lamp has been changed out for an LED item, red not colourless. I had fitted a LED reverse lamp, but I found the light it emitted was quite blue tinged and washed out, so it wasn't much use to use to reverse by in the dark ![]() All fitted with new stainless screws. ![]() Click image to enlarge Yes, it needs a wash ![]() I can't get used to being warm, or being able to have a conversation at motorway speeds ![]() I am finding the Continental tyres inferior compared to the BFG ATs on the soft top, the XS seems to understeer.. I am going to put the ATs on to see if it's the tyres or the nature of a 90 with anti roll bars (the soft top doesn't have them, having started life as a HT). Like any new car there are a few little niggly things to be sorted by the dealer: Indicator self-cancel duff Not sure rear interior light switch is working all the time but might be odd interior lamp/unlock strategy Faulty backlight on a switch on the dash Driver's door needs slamming to shut Engine buzzy at idle (or is this normal?) All being said, it's totally brilliant, and the boys (3 and 5) love it too ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
