fuel pump ????????????
looking for some help my mate has a defender 90 with a 3.9 efi v8 from a range rover and we need a new fuel pump anyone know where to get a external pump from and what one will do the job

Simon,

I had a 3.9 V8 Disco and the fuel pump and sender unit was a single item. Not sure on the Range Rover set up. Mine packed up and there was an access panel underneath the rear loadspace where you could change it. I initially got a supposed 'reconditioned one' that ran really noisily and the sender unit didn't work, subsequently no fuel gauging!
Best bet get a new one from Land Rover if it is the same combined pump/sender unit.

I have been told that an external pump wont pull the fuel from the tank is this true unles its lower than the tank Question

Not 100% sure but each vehicle I have owned the fuel pump has been situated as near as damn it to the bottom level of the tank. It does go without saying that the pump in this position will not have to work quite so hard and there is little possibility of cavitation occurring in the pipes if the pump is being gravity fed too. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
