2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Orkney Grey

12v supply from the tow bar?

I want to run a clay trap from the battery on a cable about 5-10m. Is there a neat way of runing something to the rear? It then occurred to me that i could perhaps put a tow bar socket on the trap cable and just plug it in? Would this work?.

What type tow socket does the Defender have?
You might find it easier to use the cig lighter socket and get a switch capable of taking the current in-line.

Single socket. Old type with big pins.

12N I assume which means there is no useable auxiliary power supply there.
Only 12S would supply your needs and even then you'd still need it switched.
For the clay trap do you need a constant live or some way of switching?

Could you not use the 12v supply for towing electrics that is in rear panel of truck? Purple wire behind speaker panel.

none of the standard wiring will be heavy enough amp rating for a electric clay trap

used to have a lot to do with clay traps

you would want say at least 50a fused supply with some like a Anderson plug on it ,BUT check on your trap specs as different makes could be different amp rating needed

single stack bowman trap is fused at 30a , 6 stack 40a , towing electrics fused at 10a normally

still easy to do , plenty of places to run 50a fused cables to the rear on any defender , doubt you would need extra battery as a trap motor only running for a few seconds each time when re cocking thrower arm or turning carousel. ( unless your running a roaming trap then you might use quite a bit of power from battery )

Thanks.....think the andy plug is a good idea. I can do that like a winch power supply with an isolator and fuse. Thanks for the advice.
