connecting discovery rear brake calipers!
Can somebody tell me which type of flare I should be using, when I make the new brake pipes for my 90.

Land rover Discovery 300TDI axle.

sure there a single flare , so pointed looking on the end , or convex
if talking where the metal pipe goes into the caliper

just check by looking in the hole on the caliper to see if the bottom seating is pointing up or down

up = double
down = single

pretty sure all calipers ive seen use a single flare

i have given up with the normal pipes now on rebuilds and tend to get custom made stainless flexi ones with a 45 or 90 deg bango straight to the caliper. more protection for the pipe plus does away with the need of the small copper pipe on the front (mtd to kingpin bracket) so you can go direct chassis mount to caliper Cheers

Fitting banjo bolt type fitting is ok if the surface around the threaded hole is machined flat and smooth and parallel to the hole and made to have that style of fitting

calipers that are made to have a banjo fitting used have lugs to support the crimped part because a if banjo fitting gets knocked round it can undo the bolt and start leaking

Changing the style of fittings is not something i would do or recommend !

i have done it on 3 of my vehicles now, two of them compete in winch challenge regularly. no failure to date. the copper washers take out any small imperfections. Cheers
