Hi Jim
I get DAB at home now without any issues As we live in a marginal area I was not expecting much but can get 99% of the stations we are supposed to get loud and clear. The time and effort were worthwhile and I am very impressed with the results. Aerial problem aside, the installation is very easy, you just need a switched 12v supply to the amp from the radio. I tapped into the switched radio input power lead and that is it. Connect the plugs up (correctly !) and you are done. The amp is small and fits to the side of the radio in a Tdci and looking at the TD5 there will not be issues tucking it away in the dash. I am glad I gave it a go as if it did not work everything could easily be reversed. Hey bob do you think the splitter improves FM reception i.e. does it amplify both Fm and DAB signals?

It amplifies both.
I did a quick test on FM with the splitter and then just the aerial plugged in directly and reception was far better with the splitter connected Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Thanks Bob, now I need to decide;
1) is my original antenna broken ( I think it might be - the central part of the coax cable is very fine indeed and susceptible to breakage) 2) if it is - do I get a Bosch autoflex or a Dab + FM/AM antenna and "future proof" 3) if the original isn't broken, I could get a splitter |

Bob - you still happy with your DAB splitter ?
Are you running the standard LR rubber FM aerial or did you replace with a newer/better one ? ... my FM reception is pretty rubbish and the windscreen DAB isn't much better ... I have bought a powered splitter from DAB on Wheels but am wondering if a new FM aerial would be the way to go at the same time ? rgds Jon |

Hi Jon
Just moved the complete set up from the TDCI 90 to the TD5 as the TDCI has gone. TDCI had a standard LR aerial that was perfect for the splitter and DAB. The TD5 is running an Entreq flexi and this is also fine with the splitter and DAB. If your FM is rubbish on the LR aerial it sounds like you may need to replace it, I had this problem originally and it was the actual cable that was damaged. I am actually getting better DAB reception with the splitter and Pioneer radio than from vehicles that have DAB as standard - work that one out !!! I'm going DAB only in my 90, I have an Alpine Bluetooth stereo, though the bluetooth is 'ropey'. So I want DAB only, no bluetooth and a decent external aerial. I take it you don't need the splitter if you don't want FM?

Not 100% sure of the answer to that.
Best bet would be to contact DABONWHEELS, they offer really good advice. Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

IIRC the 'splitter' uses the FM aerial to receive and convert the DAB signal - so unless you fit a DAB-only aerial then you will need a splitter for a better signal (certainly than the stick-on window loops if accounts are to be believed) ... Am just waiting on Brendan to let me know about a better FM aerial price Jon |
