i've promised to teach my 12 year old nephew how to fly fish this summer; unfotunately it's been 20 years since i last cast a rod - i think the garden hedges might get a few pactice whips very soon

Cut the bend off an old fly and use that on the tippet or you may crack the fly line Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

cheers for that advise
i think the only useable reel i have has got shooting head line on it for bank fishing on lakes; these is definately something pleasurable about punching a line out into the middle of a lake |

On the subject of fishing SWMBO was disgruntled at the fact our freezer has a lot of fish in it at the moment I have caught, predominantly plaice and mackerel.
Needless to say she was cock a hoop I was taking a few mackerel out of it 'for work.' What I failed to mention was the fact I was going to be working at the stern on the catamaran and it is ideal under the sodium lights at night to drop a line in and continue to work whilst keeping an occasional eye on the fishing rod. NOT impressed this morning to get up at 06:30 to find me on the patio outside the back door gutting and descaling the two bass I caught......
