Is it possible to fit these HID conversion kits to the 2007+ Defenders?
If so, any special precautions / notes? (i won a kit and would like to install it..., or else sell it if i can't). Cheers |

Few topics on HID headlights if you do a search....Not sure what you mean by "these." Legality may be an issue and will have to be considered too (maybe)...

I am a little confused, so please bear with me. I have read through many posts on this and the SA forum on HID kits. There are quite a few conflicting opinions, so let me ask a few questions:
Firstly, "these" refers to HID7 light kit, with 2 balasts, bulbs and cables. 6000 Kelvin. (or is there more to it than that?) - is the headlight on the 2007 Defender a sealed unit? Or does it use a halogen type bulb that clips into the back? And is it physically possible to fit this kit to the standard headlight unit? - does anyone know what the South African law is regarding these HID kits? Cheers |

no, it is not a sealed beam unit. You can clip/unclip the bulb from the unit. I would not fit an HID kit to the standard unit - HID kits will blind oncoming traffic because the reflector unit in your Defender OEM headlight is not designed for HID light. Raltom, I paid R1350 for a pair of Wipac clear lenses including upgraded bulbs,, and it makes a HUGE difference! You can contact Andrew Faber from Chuma 4x4 on andy.faber@vodamail.co.za if you're keen. Also, bear in mind that if you HID kit bombs out in the bush, there is no easy fix! With the Wipac setup, I can carry spare Osram bulbs and replace them anywhere in 20mins! |

Thanks Naks The ONLY reason why i'm exploring this is because i won a kit from Leisure Wheels magazine for an article i wrote in the May issue... If i can't use them then i'll just sell them on Gumtree or something... Cheers |

Hmm, well, if it's for free, then you might as well put them in the Landy. But be aware that standard headlight reflector units will spead the HID light all over the place, very hard to focus these. Do some googling and see what people have come up with? |
