despite putting a few new batteries in I was shocked at the range of the central locking, approx 1 to 1.5 meters, totally useless,
I came across this : http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defen...fixed.html If you take out the front speaker, drivers side, and shine torch up and look towards the firewall you will see a green box, it is about 15 cm long and 8cm tall, with two harnesses attached to the bottom of it. The harness closest to the steering collum has an Orange wire with a light grey stripe, about 15cm long, leading out of it. You can also see it from the fuse box, below the steering wheel, if you look in the gap on the right hand side. This wire (orange/light grey stripe) is the Ariel for the remote. I was lucky enough that this wire was close enough to be able to grab it with a pair of long nose pliers from the fuse box (without removing the speaker). I then soldered a length of wire about a meter or so long, used a stiff piece of plastic strap to poke down in the gap behind the dash and from the bottom of the "A" pillar, a second piece from the right hand side of the steering collum to the fuse box and then just pulled the new wire through, then up the "A" pillar, behind the plastic cover. Job done - 15 meter remote distance Dave |

Hi, I am not sure what the quote you mention is refering to but this central locking range fix has no security implications, it just increases the range on the buttons, Dave |

Try pressing the key fob against your temple and you will get up to 15m range all of a sudden!

If you've had the misfortune of having had a metal plate fitted to your swede you can get a range of over a mile and a half using 110SEB's principle. I can get mine to unlock in Bournemouth whilst operating the fob on the Isle of White. Honest?????

Thanks for the tip. Worked a treat and only took 20 minutes. Mine works from 10 metres, but hey, that's a whole ten times better. Why couldn't Land Rover have done that! Thanks again. |

Used to be i got a Kona Cowan 06 (Electric blue) HT. I have a question when i go to do this mod i know which wire it is and where to route it best but how do you guys think i should join the new wire best? solder then electrical tape or solder and crimp or just crimp? Or does it not really matter just so long as it's connected |

Hi, "orange/light grey striped wire" as specified above. I soldered and used heat shink sleeve, but any method that securely joins and insulates the wire will be OK. Routed mine up the 'A' pillar (just two screws to remove the trim) and then just into the roof void. As I said, it works a treat. Plus a few brownie points from Ann, my partner.

Used bullet connectors on mine.
I was told the reason Land Rovers (and Rovers) were like this is to stop people "capturing" the code remotely and cloning it. On the basis you might notice someone with a little black box lurking suspiciously right beside the drivers door Mind you sort of misses the point of remote central locking MAD COW 2007 90 Hard Top - 2009 BMW F800GS - 2002 CCM 604E Dual Sport Project90 |

My remote is pressure sensitive. If it does not open froma few feet away I squeeze it harder and swear - gets me in everytime! I do sometimes wonder if the switch contacts are not quite fully closing
