turbo wiring
Hi

To my mind the turbo has too many wires - what are they all for?

For those that have had a new turbo harness how was the problem diagnosed and if was intermittent how would you test it - what voltages etc would you expect to see in each wire?

Many thanks

If you have a 2.4 and access to the 2007 wiring diagram try section 303-14. electronic engine controls. Turbo listed as actuator vane vgt. d363 .
whether it suits all models I don`t know, my electrics have been ok so far.

1. live connection
1. ground connection
3. signal wires, from turbo to ecu

5. wires in all

Check voltages across live and ground on turbo may be 5 (ish) volts ignition on. ecu voltage or 12 volts battery voltage.
Depending on set up of system.

Check continunity of signal wires on 200 ohms resistance from turbo to ecu. Don`t forget to disconnect battery if playing with ecu, you may need a fault code reader if you accidently make a fault code appear. don`t try to put battery voltage to the ecu or the turbo, it will get expensive.
I`ve seen it done, I have a man with a dead motor home because of this. £84,000 standing in his drive, all for the want of a phone call.

If you have access to good diagnostic kit you should be able to carry out an actuator test on the vgt unit to prove its readiness, some may even give you actual and desired figures to double check it. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

C's continuous trouble shooting gets you really excited, hey Thumbs Up

Why is it that my SVX is purring away like a cat without me doing anything other to it than have it frequently serviced? Something must be wrong I guess, let me start looking into this... Whistle You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Even so something is not right all the time which is frustrating Crying or Very sad

As mentioned elsewhere while the engine was ticking over I gave the engine harness a gentle wiggle here and there and the turbo actuator moved in / out - looked like a full movement.????? Only did it once and can't seem to get it to repeat.?

Best thing you can do with an intermittent problem is to "let it develop" into a specific repeatable problem you have a fighting chance of finding the fault and sorting it.

Well that's what my journeyman used to say.................I think he was right (unless it was to do with brakes Rolling with laughter )

Cheers
