I had one fitted by a main dealer 3 years ago (driven plate, cover, slave cylinder, and restrictor replaced) and it cost about UK£1k
This time I replace it myself, parts were about £250 all in, it took a day to fit but this included quite a lot of additional work (replacement t-box, handbrake overhaul, oil changes, and full clutch and gear lever linkage overhaul). |

Mine dose it too, but not all the time. When still, put into 2nd gear, release clutch to biting point, press clutch, go into neutral, release clutch. Usually back to normal.
Stopping in 1st gear, or switching from low to high box is what normally cause the noise for me. Stopping in 2nd gear results in no tac-tacing. Sorry to hear this.
I have very recently had the same issue with mine so can completely understand the sinking feeling when they say its not just the clutch, its the flywheel too. Hope it gets sorted for you. |

So if this has to be done, asides from the clutch plate and the bearing, is there anything else we should be looking to replace while the transmission is opened up anyways?

Yes, while the gearbox is out, seperate the gearbox and transfer box and inspect the gearbox output extension shaft splines.
There have been many cases of this splined joint failing completely due to fretting resulting from no lubrication on assembly, and failure results in total loss of drive. It is definitely worth inspection and even if it looks OK greasing it thoroughly with a molybdenum disulphide grease whenever you get the chance. |
