Ive had a bow wave upto the bottom of the windscreen. I have a un-sealed RAI but I beleive the plastic jobby from mantec is more for dust rather than water (unless you use a tube of silicone sealent).
I checked the underseat box straight away and there was a small amount of water but not enough to worry about. All I can say was that I was particularly stupid and very lucky all in one day!! |

The ECU is no longer located there- they haven't made the Td5 mistake again. It is now located on the bulkhead behind the engine. I would say it is waterproof enough, and to get water there would be a challenge unless you stop in water up to your windscreen. Glyn |

land rover will tell you that it has been made water proof due to its re-location under the bonnet until you get it full of water and have a fault, then they will tell you that you must have exceeded the waiding limit and they will also not accsept that it could collect water spray from the road, also pointing out to them that your cd player and all the instroments are still working and that they would have been flooded if you had been stationary in that depth of water will not win them over.
as you may have guess'd i'm on the look out for an ECU loom extention. so no its not water proof. |

A LR dealer mecanic tell me that exist an acessory that make the ecu waterproof, do you know something about it???
So, it's sad one LR that can't go underwater if you need, and it's a quite strange, because you can't submerge the Defender , but it submerge you and your bags in every rain!!! regards |

Ecu connectors are water proof (I wash several times my engine bay with high pressure washer and I'haven't any problems).....
If water arrive on the ECU, probably it has damage somethings in others car parts....... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

I wonder what that ECU look alike box is under the passenger (continental) seat. Boldly going nowhere

Well, I checked again under the passenger seat (i.e. right hand side here) and there is nothing that looks like an ECU. I have no idea why I had that impression as I have never seen the intimate parts of any Land Rover but the SIIA and the Puma. Nothing under the driver's seat either. Too much Portuguese tinto I suppose. Boldly going nowhere

i cant understand why they cant hard wire it to a long cable that connects to the vehical loom at some high point and have the ecu fill'd with silicon or similare, this would make it very waterproof, and not a great deal more expenceive, other things would need waterproofing but the expencive "brain" would be ok, all that said why can't they just mount it high.
