Suitable grease for around pinion seal
Hi guys

I'm replacing my leaky pinion seal on my front differential next week, and need to know what grease to use on the seal, flange before replacing. Also likely to grease the propshaft uj at the same time.

Thanks

Just normal general purpose stuff, doesn't need to be anything special.

On the flange/seal, it's just a finger full rubbed around it so it's not "dry"

I've just replaced one on my rear diff and filled the back with LM to stop the garter spring falling out while I tapped it in.

Thanks for replies. I've bought some GP grease.

Slightly off topic but hopefully someone will know, I bought BEARMACH PART No: STC4858 replacement diff flange. It comes with a split pin, nyloc nut and a bolt. I'm slightly confused what the bolt is for, I'm expecting to see either a nyloc nut or split pin/castrell nut when I take the prop off. Anyone any idea what the bolt could be for?

Current diffs use an M12 setscrew (the "bolt") instead of a nut.

To many, no doubt, but strictly speaking not! Rolling with laughter

The change to a setscrew is useful actually, since if the flange is a tight fit you can screw a length of M12 studding in the hole and then use a nut and washer to pull the flange on, without risk of pushing the pinion into the crownwheel. This wasn't possible with the old arrangement.
