Hi,
I've just noticed, that when I'm driving slowly or when the truck is stationary and I turn the steering I hear a groan from the steering. It's like the steering system is groaning under the strain..... Nothing else is noticeable, no leaks, no water in oil, belt seems tight, it's not slipping the belt. Any ideas, hope it's not something I need to worry about! Cheers Andy |

Aye, 2001 TD5,
I'm not planing on doing anything about it in the short term (seems expensive). I was just wondering if it was a tell tail sign of a well known fault Cheers Andy |

i think im getting the same thing since fitting a new steering wheel and giving the big nut maybe a bit too much torque (the steering column seemed to move a bit under the strain), i cant tell if its a new noise or was there before but its like a slight hissing/groaning when turning stationary, im probably overthinking it but i hope i never damaged anything (2012 2.2tdci)

I have the same kind of hissing sound from the column on my 14 2.2 110!!! I'm betting they all do that as the dealers love to say 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

I traced mine down to a slightly dodgy steering damper. I noticed one day that it was weeping oil, changed it for a new one and the noise went away.
Worth considering... Dave |

early td5s all had steering that groaned under low revs, there was a mod for it, its pipe resonance. Cheers
