changing the bulb behind the fuel guage
I noticed that the fuel gauge fails to illuminate when I turn on the lights. Could someone advise me on how to replace it?

Cheers

It is a quick and easy job.... 5 minutes. Undo the screws holding the instrument binnacle on (IIRC two each side, two on the top and two on the bottom), lift it clear of the dashboard so you can see the back of the dials and you will be able to see the bulb holder. I think it is a 286 wedge bulb (1.2 w). The left hand side binnacle screws might be a pain with the late td5 centre dash so you may need a stubby screwdriver.

Don't know how bad the TD5 dash lights are but the TDI is rubbish. I replaced all mine with LEDs a while back, difference is unbelievable. They seem to have disappeared off EBay at present but here is a before and after shot

My mistake.....there are no screws in the top of the binnacle just the sides and bottom.

Td5 bulbs are different to Tdi and the illumination is better, in fact some who have fitted LEDs have found them too bright. I haven't felt it worthwhile on my Td5.

My TD5 has dropped it's illumination from about 65mph upwards on the speedo. It's probably a sign and telling me if I cant see the needle (above 65mph), then I shouldn't be up there :p.

I assume the speedo is made up of 2/3 bulbs?

Cheers.

Couple of bulbs for the speedo but different to the other clocks, again easy to replace especially with some thin long nose pliers(I use a large pair of medical forceps which are excellent for the job)
I went to a decent auto electrics place in town and they sorted me out some replacements for a couple of quid.

I think it is a single bulb, and I think it is a different bulb to the fuel guage and temperature guage but I am not 100% sure. I am sure it tells you in the owners manual or take the binnacle off take the bulb out and take it to a motor factor.

JWL types quicker than me....
