Stratstone don't appear to have a good reputation wherever they're located....
Some choice words and strong views, especially first post of link 2 and MSE's second post in the same.... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic24329....stratstone http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic4724.h...stratstone http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic19431....stratstone http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2490.h...stratstone In response to MSE's list of failings....
He's got balls I'll give him that....When asked about any vested interest....
Then starts a new thread...
Obviously the information wasn't digested thoroughly enough and the details, rants and complaints passed on to the other branches to make the general Stratstone Experience a better one perhaps? Pathetic!!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

An interesting view, and with which I concur.
I looked at a Defender at Stratstone Doncaster around a month ago and I got the impression they weren't bothered. They didn't take my details, or follow up my enquiry. Purchase made elsewhere. |

I myself don't have ANY experience of Statsones but do hate with a vengeance dealers with a lame and/or snotty can't be fooked attitude. I do have my own experiences of my own local dealer ranging from going that extra mile to being so far up their own ar535 you end up speaking to a pair of heels.
If you are fortunate enough to find/have a decent independant in your area they can be worth their weight in gold. I have yet to try the newish independant local to myself (but will do) but have travelled two hours in each direction to use the one I trust. Politeness, good service and building a solid reputation costs absolutely nothing! Independants have cottoned on that this is their lifeblood and customer relations are of paramount importance in the scheme of things.....Why haven't the dealers themselves? Rant off!!!!! We all want good service and to feel that our custom is appreciated however we all search the internet for the best deal and squeeze the margin out of the dealer. On the one hand we want good service but on the other want to get the best possible deal. This leaves the dealer making little margin, paying low salaries (as that is all they can afford) and having to cut back where they can too make a profit. How many small dealers that offered good service have gone out of business? If we all search our memories the answer is lots of them replaced by the big boys who stay afloat through their bulk purchasing power. Remember we buy from a wholesaler and not the manufacturer.
I am afraid poor service is what we get if we want to pay the lowest prices! |

The trouble is that for us as customers the likes of these main dealers still want to charge the top prices whilst giving sub kwik-fit service

Paying the 'lowest' prices may (or may not in some cases) get you the poorest service. Nevertheless paying less for service and perhaps a little more for high quality secondhand vehicles is a good balancing act perhaps?
Look at the reviews of this independant. A few Dealers could learn a thing or two from the way these conduct their business. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic2222.h...mes+french If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Providing a good services and taking an interest in customers does not cost money.
As I said above Stratstone Doncaster they didn't even bother to get my details and follow up after a test drive. I had a similar experience with another Stratstone dealer as well. The impression I got was similar to the original poster, they just can't be bothered They never get as far as talking money. |

the dealers make up the amount of discount we get anyway.
If they weren't making money they wouldn't give the discount and they Would all just reduce the percentage of discount given to make it acceptable. |

Stratstone Doncasters salesman said he would go upstairs to get a price on my p/x he left me sitting in is office for 30 minutes i would of left but he asked me for my drivers licence as a ploy to keep me there, when he returned with is coffee he then started chatting to another customer bye which time my blood was boiling, i said i have been here 30 minutes and he said it all takes time and then grinded, is best price was 2k off what other dealers were offering, talk about getting your leg lifted if i would of took is offer, When i told him his offer was 2k off what other dealers were offering he snapped and said thats all we will pay for it the sales managers not in a good mood today. I politeley said i can get more and did 2k more.

Generally sales managers are bad. They seem to have this I am god like attitude. Don't come out they just hide and play this game of making the sales boy walk in and out of his office.
The trouble is buying a new land rover is generally the second biggest purchase you make. Go and buy a belstaff jacket or a meal in purnells in birmingham and they treat you like a god. They can't do enough for you, they want your money and you are spending £130-£500 not £30k. I hopefully treat my customers the same even if they are spending £36. |

There are good main dealers as well as bad ones. Likewise there are good independents as well as bad ones.
Most of the bad main dealers appear to be part of large groups. One large local group main dealer has already lost out on sales of new vehicles to us, plus service/warranty work. However we have found a decent main dealer local to us which are quite good. One independent LR dealer has lost out on thousands of £s worth of service work and parts due to their incompetence ONCE. They are 2 miles from where we live, but we will not use them again in a hurry. Instead we travel 20 miles/40 minutes and use two small independent garages as we trust them. They also help us out with parts and information. Have said it before a good working relationship with your garage makes life a lot easier and better for both parties. A lot of garages forget that a good working relationship works both ways and can last several years, if not decades and many different vehicles. Brendan |

Stratstone in MK had a snooty attitude and showed no interest in my Defender enquiry either which is why I bought mine from Sytner Northampton even though it was further away. So far they have been brilliant.

Stop complaining ....... you got a far better 'Stratstone' experience than I ever did ............. the sales team in Newcastle wouldn't even speak to me, they were so busy doing nothing in particular. See the post on Stratstone Newcastle. I believe that Stratstone is just a marketing brand of Evans Halshaw who seem to specialise in selling discounted Vauxhall Corsas to teenagers. Maybe their sales professionals don't relate to people with real money? |

We bought from Stratstone MK and it was a real uphill battle. They couldn't arrange a test drive, then arranged a test drive in a new car not the second hand car we picked out. We eventually spotted the one we now have on their website but up north -- and I rang to ask them to bring it down with a view to buying. They didn't want to, and I even got asked whether I was certain that I was interested in a Defender. After taking it brakes had a chronic squeal. Took it back in, they agreed and found they had to replace calipers at rear -- sounded like they could tell with a visual inspection that there was a problem. So much for an approved check before sale. Wish I'd known about Sytner at the time. Next time 2009 110 XS Station Wagon |
