Am I doing this right Info wanted on headlight loom upgrade
Am I doing this right!
I have Just obtained two sets of wiring looms to upgrade my headlights from Ebay

The looms contained two relays which because they came from China I will replace with known quality ones.

My question is am I right in thinking that all I have to do is run the live wire in the loom direct from the battery (fused) and then remove the existing H4 connector and replace with the H4 connector on the end of the new loom, then fit the three pronged male connector also on the new loom into the original H4 connector and find a suitable good earth for the earth wire and job done!

Or am I missing something important. I intend to run a separate new loom to each headlight even though the new loom has fitting for both headlights, that’s why I bought two looms, I will just strip out the extra wires and relay out of the each loom.

I've got one on the shelf ready to be fitted (along with a lot more stuff when time permits!) and the instructions say to connect direct to the alternator. Other than that, do exactly what you plan.
For those that have one already fitted, is the benefit perceivable? If its really good i'll bump it up my to do list.
Thanks

I made my own up, using decent gauge wire, so can't comment on these ebay sets, but otherwise, yes, there was a very noticeable difference on mine. Largely because lights were receiving the correct voltage, not 10-11 volts as it was previously.

And the switch shouldn't now melt

Loads better, I had ordered the Chinese ones but they never turned up. I made my own up and ran straight from the alternator, so now rather than 10 and a bit volts I get over 13 at the connector, almost a 30% rise in voltage and loads more light. They are now white rather than dull yellow Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6
