TD5 County 2001- diff lock light.
As a former D3/4 owner the 'do it yourself ' of the Defender is its charm and for me mystery! I can get low and high ok, but the push to left, doesn't seem to land and there is no dash light illuminated.
Suggestions chaps? 2001 DEF TD5 County

Assuming it works on the start-up test, no light means the diff lock isn't engaged. First port of call should be the linkage on top of the box as they are known to seize up if not used every now and then. I can't remember how accessible it is just by removing the rubber boot. It may be necessary to take put the tunnel but, once exposed, a soaking with penetrating oil usually does the trick. Darren

I don't get a light on the dash on start up test either and from your reply, I take it I should. I will have a go with penetrating oil as first attempt. Thanks for the advice. 2001 DEF TD5 County

Td5 doesn't have a start-up difflock warning light. It's purely connected to the difflock lever.

Could be something as simple as the wire come off the switch (by Td5 age the plugs are decent waterproof ones, not spade terminals)

Try jacking a front wheel up (engine off), and rotating said wheel... check it rotates OK. then engage the difflock lever, and try spinning the wheel again. If it locks up, you know that the difflock is OK and it's just the switch that's duff (or the warning light on the dash)

I have had the very same problem a while ago. Cured by a douse with WD40. The linkage is accessible from underneath on the drivers side.
