Mantec upper load lugga- fitment?

Can anyone familiar with the product tell me how the upper brackets fit? I can't see from the pictures, the feet sit above the plastic trim- do you drill the rail or do they clamp onto it a little like external roof rack feet?

I'm tempted to get one, but would like to know how they for before I commit.
