Stuck inner wheel bearing removal
OK, not un-heard of, as I checked the wheel bearings, one of my front ones has become seized solid on the stub axle.

I have, or did have a 3 jaw puller (not sure if all the pieces still exist) and a good blowtorch, and a backup hub seal, (existing one just burns after heating) and large lump hammer and chisel.

What I don't have is time or a spare stub axle. I am meant to be commuting in this back to work on Tuesday.

I had a go at trying to knock it off today, to little or no avail...

Any suggestions or tips anyone has in getting this thing off would be appreciated... 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Might be able to get access to an angle grinder, although that's not a dead cert...was something I'd considered! 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

A proper bearing separator would probably do the job best if you can get hold of one.

You might not have enough edge to get a good grip on it. I needed to use an angle grinder too.
I made 2 cuts about 90 deg from each other not completely through as I did want to damage the stub. And then hammered the Censored out of it till it came loose. Laughing

It took some time but it worked. Roel

Did the bearing overheat and disintegrate? If yes then the stub axle and bearing will be fused together and you need some violence. If the bearing is still in one piece then try a better puller, it is a tight fit.

I removed mine with an angle grinder as well. Two cuts and then it falls off. I had no stub axle available so cleaned it up with the angle grinder and reassembled with a new bearing and seal. Replace as soon as possible, but you can drive this way.

Or a cold chisel is less damaging to the stub. Martin

Cheers people. I managed to get it off. A lot of heat and hammering, I thought the stub would be pretty knackered after the effort, but it cleaned up pretty well, so all good now. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top
