All TD5s have a Lucas AS10 ecu behind the instruments. Not all have it activated as alarm/immobilizer. To do this you need the steering column part, fobs and someone to plug it in to a computer to activate it. I can't remember how much I paid for this, but don't think it was too shocking.

When my insurance company were being awkward, the factory fitted immobiliser was not good enough for them as it was not thatcham cat 2 approved (I think it was cat 2).
To have a seperate one fitted at a local auto electrician was about £130 so it might not be worth upgrading the original if it needs it. 2002 110 td5 |

My insurance company wouldn't either, but when I provided the underwriter with photographic evidence that it was the same system as that fitted to a Puma they accepted it. Bo the Puma and Disco 2 have Thatcham approval for this system, but not TD5 defender. It took some persitence to make this happen and the broker was having none of it, but I got there in the end!

The Disco 2 system is totally different to any Defender systems and doesn't use a Lucas 10As unit.
I believe that the Disco 2 is Thatcham Cat 1 approved. |

Again, it's all easy to do and all the information is out there.
you need the fob with the correct frequency 315 or 433 MHz central door lock relay NEC EP2-3N1S (if your didn't come with alarm, i doubt it has cdl), you need to opne up the green box to solder this onto the PCBA and get wires 2 and 3 out from there to drive the CDL motors. bonnet sensor switch (wiring already in the harness) door switch and wire harness transponder ring (wiring already in the harness) utrasonic sensor (and wire harness) back up battery sounder (you can use one from a P38 rangie. You will need to know what options to turn on in the 10AS, so you will need a nanocom. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island. |
