Last build October 2014? You may be causing a panic here.
You mean October 2015 I presume? Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

20th December 2015 is the date when the last Defender will roll off the line, according to JLR's official release.

Does everyone really think the Defender will end next year? It may be the end of the Defender coming out of Solihull to make way for extra 405 capacity, but it won't stop Defenders being produced altogether. There are other production lines in another obvious country that can take over.
Surely, there is still a market for such a unique vehicle that only a Defender can fulfil and in countries that are not tied down with all the legislative cr4p. All they need is a production line that is cheap enough to run that doesn't need high capacity to make profit. Only my thoughts, for what they are worth plus trying to be optimistic |

They'll sell the tooling to Mexico or Brazil and production will continue for another ten years.

This is what I thought, however two of my local dealers have said production will end Dec 2014. Could be something to do with this:- The Euro 6 standard will come into force on 1 September 2014 for the approval of vehicles, and from 1 January 2015 for the registration and sale of new cars. |

I think you'll find that there "variations" in the rules, for various types of vehicles.
Cheers, Pickles. |

Yes indeed, this is how the current model has survived as long as it has.
To clear this up could a few members call their dealers and ask the question To clarify I have been told the order books are closed as from end Oct 2014. |

Aren't commercial vehicles exempt from these new rules?

As far as I understand it, EU6 would have killed the Defender at the end of 2014, other than that their particular N1 (N1-III?) category puts them in the end of 2015 group.

Would a petrol engine be possible to meet the new emission requirements or is it really not possible for the Defender?
