Just been having a think about these as I have them fitted and also similar in the side repeaters.
The legality in my mind seems to be in question, I was under the impression that so long as the actual light unit / holder was E marked it would be legal to use LED bulbs providing they are bright enough and the correct colour. I now have some doubts, it seems that you will likely be okay but if insurance go into detail over it or police then it could be an issue over its legality. Now I'm not sure if I should go back to ordinary bulbs on these to be on the safe side as well as the side repeaters. RDX or wipac LED indicators and brake lights etc are fine as they are sold as an approved E marked LED uniti. The side repeaters and rear number plate fixture with these type LED bulbs fitted I'm not sure are legal. The lenses are but the bulbs aren't, normally you have an E marked lense and E marked incandescent bulb.. |
