Puma 57 blowing starter fuse
Hi everyone, ive got a bit of bother with my 57 90 puma, she now and again blows the 40a fuse under the drivers seat, would happen maybe four times a day, then maybe once a week, really strange....? When she does it all the electrics would work except she wont turn over...?!

Would anyone know how i would be able to get my hands on a starting circuit diagram by any chance?
Thanks louis.

Hi Louis,

Dgardel is our resident font of knowledge with wiring diagrams and workshop manuals etc.

Check out THIS THREAD for more info.

Which actual fuse is it that your blowing? One of the screw down fuses?

Hi Phoenix90
Thank you very much for the info, its the single 40a blade fuse next to a 60a slow blow blade (the biggest type blade) the two are on theire own little bracket under the drivers seat, not in the fuse box... Really annoying, as it might be fine for weeks and then blow four in one day :-/ Ive replaced the wire running from the starter relay to the starter solenoid and so far no blown fuse yet.... Fingers crossed lol

Do you mean these fuses (faintly ringed at bottom of photo)?

Not wishing to state the obvious here but looking at the electrical diagrams there isn't a 40 amp fuse in the starting system.

Whistle

The battery junction box contains (or should contain the following):-

Link 5 - 60 amps Relay Starter.
Link 2 - 60 amps is your Instrument Cluster feed which is protected in series with another fuse Fuse 30 in your Central Junction Box which is rated at 10 amps.
Fuse 5 - 30 amps Relay Main.

The smaller fuse supplies the coil of your glow plug relay Relay 14 when the ECM commands it. (Ignition on).

Hope this helps.... Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I've never been able to figure out what those two fuses actually protect, and can't find them in the circuit diagrams. I had a suspicion that the larger one was connected in some way with the injectors, but I am not sure.

Sorry it's not much help!

From the Electrical Connector Manual the small one is: c0602

a 15Amp Fuse connection to the Engine ECU

The big one is a 60Amp fuse for the glow Plugs

Hi K9F Yea, its a really strange one... The diagrams doest seem to show the 40A fuse clearly.... I traced the wire going out from the 40a fuse to the starter relay, and it goes through the starter relay when its energised, straight to the starter solenoid.... Ive run a new wire from the starter relay to the starter solenoid and fingers crossed the fuse hasnt blown yet Smile

Thanks everyone for the help!!! Thumbs Up

Question The fuse that protects the starter relay(R102) contact supply is Link 5 mentioned in my previous post which should be 60 amps?

Here's the handy link from Dgardel with loads of useful information and the wiring schematics too.... Thumbs Up
