Hi, just measured mine and its 30mm to the lowest point been a bolt head. Surely the sunroof is on the sloping bit though?

Since i never bother with a sunroof in a Defender, another area for leaks !!
Can only guess the distance back to the rear of the your sunroof,, but 3" is all you have, to the under side of a Patriot California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

3"? Mines 21/2" to the under side of the bars going the length and 11/4" to the underside of the cross bars which have bolt heads lower than that hence the 30mm clearance.

Now measured to be sure
Taking a guesstimate where the rear of a sunroof would be ? ie in line with the B posts,, I was not far out, 75mm (smidge under the 3") under the longitudinal rack beams,, My second cross bar is another 4" behind the B post line Presuming its the standard LR Sunroof that tilts up at the rear. as id over the front seats ? That would explain the difference, I measured from the flat section of the roof not the sloping front.

Hopefully, its the sloping front bit, is where his sunroof is fitted !!
At 3 ", From memory i doubt it will fully open , as a bit more that that, to be locked open California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

thanks for the quick response.
Yes, sunroof is on front, sloping section of roof, but rear of sunroof is only 20-30mm forward of point where roof angle changes. Looking from side the rear of the glass is practically level with rear (flat) section of roof when closed. It should miss the second cross rail OK so looks like it may still be possible to open (type with wheel not cam so can be opened to any extent, not just closed/half/full open) once the rack is on. May still consider sticking it down as getting a bit fed up with the drips - though as I say I'm not convinced they are not just condensation freezing there on the cold nights. Thanks, Martin. 1996 300Tdi Defender 110 |

Martin, your roof will open if it is the rotary wheel type opener but not fully so be careful to leave it short of the rack. As for the water ingress- try smearing silicon grease around the rubber once it has been cleaned of dirt and anything which may cause a break in the seal.

Have in the past as a temp measure that stayed in for years ! on a old 300 Tdi,,
ran some 12v wire in under the seal to perk it up,, did the trick California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

will try cleaning and silicone grease first. Interested to hear a bit more about the 12v wire trick?
One more question for those with a patriot rack - I've looked for a serial number on mine and can only find one number stamped - it's on the rear corner bracking bracket (small bracket inside rack frame at rear n/s corner). I've emailed manufacturer but still waiting for reply so though I would ask here too. From the patriot web site the number is on a part not supplied as spare (makes sense) but looks to me as though this could easily be swapped out? I would have thought one of the side rails with patriot logo would be a more logical place for it as these are about as specific to the rack as you can get? M. 1996 300Tdi Defender 110 |

I too have a 'third-hand' Patriot Rack. Perhaps a point to note may be is that early production Patriot Racks were not serial numbered. Mine isn't. It depends how old it actually is.

hmm, I had wondered if earlier ones may not have a number.
Not sure of the age of this one but definitely not that new. Will be interesting to hear where the serial number on the more recent models is actually located. 1996 300Tdi Defender 110 |

Hi guys, all Patriot racks should be serial number stamped on the rear frame corners, depending on how they were fitted when the rack was assembled they could be on the upper or lower edge.
