Some nice green lanes with a single vehicle and a family...
As I booked the nice 4x4 summer weekend (18-20 Juli) in Brecon Beacons National Park, I'm also looking for some nice scenery roads afterwards. Can be a bit further into Wales but also in the opposite direction as I need to catch the train in Folkstone somewhere in the the evening on 23 July.
Especially as I'm travelling with the family I'm not after a 4x4 challenge. Just nice scenery will do. Would love to visit small villages in between if possible. Would prefer campsites above a hotel, but as I haven't got my dogs with me time a hotel wouldn't mean the end of the world for me.
Was hoping some of you have a couple of ideas for me to work out? Very Happy

Thanks Vincent. It's high on my list, although I also read from some you shouldn't be going alone.
I do have to say I'm normally a careful driver who doesn't mind getting out of the car for a thorough look before I drive up or down a track.

So here's what I'd do.

Strata Florida (Better as 2 vehicles but not essential, ask somebody on here if they'll join? If it rains a lot in the days leading up to it you'll be much better with 2)

I'd then bob up to Devils Bridge and over past Nant-Y-Moch as it stunning up there.

Drop down to Mach and head over to Aberdyfi (Fish & Chips at the sea side Smile )

Drive up Copperhill Street and towards Bearded Lake and admire the view from the top over the Estuary

Drop down the short but nice lane with a ford at the end into Happy Valley.

Over Happy Valley lane to Bryncrug

Then over to Bird Rock and drop down towards Dolgellau / Barmouth

Stop at Graig Wen campsite and camp in the middle field.

Walk 2 miles down the track and have Dinner at the George pub overlooking the wooden bridge and the Estuary

Wake up, cook your local farm Eggs and Bacon picked up from the honesty shop and think about a long 6 hour drive to Folkstone Very Happy

I'd not be doing Happy Valley in an immaculate 130, not unless it has been significantly upgraded since I last drove over. As far as lanes in Wales I can sort you out before you leave the farm Allan. It would be nice if you could maybe drive some of the lanes in Wiltshire or the Chilterns on your drive back across England. Unfortunately I have no info on which ones are open and in good, non-scratchy condition.

Fair point, never tried getting a 130 past that rock at the beginning. Shocked

Thanks all for the help so far. Really appreciate it! Thumbs Up

Would love that Mark.
The most exciting modification on my 130 is the fridge full of beer. Mr. Green
Fairly standard car Not sure if the snorkel is arrives in time but I don't intend to go way deep. I ordered it for emergencies and in preparation to a have the air intake raised for a trip to Africa one day. I'm trying to do some holidays and round trips to see what works and what needs improvement, always with a 'travel light philosophy' in my mind.

I'm not to worried about a light scratch of the paintwork as it will happen eventually. I just don't want to dent the bodywork. Also I'm with the family so to keep the risk down seems logical.

I'll probably remove the tow bar before I leave as I lost track of the times I've been stuck because of that since I got the car last year.
