Air box mod and decat
Gentlemen

So what do we think? Is it worth doing the air box and decat mods? I'm not expecting a revelation here but can you feel the difference?

Yes.... but to make full use of the reduction back pressure you should have the engine calibration changed to suit.

Changing the back pressure effects turbo control... and you should correct for this.

Air box mods can be good for a gain of 11Nm's on the dyno... and you can go further especially if you don't have ABS (well, it's easier without ABS).

Sounds good, I take it that the recalibration needs to be done by a man with one of those computer-box things..
The air box mod I was babbling about is the removal of the fan like thing and the restriction bit.

Fan removal and reshaping of the inside of the box... I have been doing this for ages before other people starting copying lol.

And yes - by a man with a laptop, and who actually knows what they are doing... and not just thinks they do.





You will get a nice gain over standard in terms of performance, smoothness and driveability... and typically improved MPG (as per another thread that is running on here at the moment).

At the very least you can remove the water separator from the dirty side of the filter. This does not work as intended on a Puma and adds a restriction.

On from this you can change the way the air flows inside the box.... and then change the feed pipe from the wing to the air box. My Puma runs my big pipe conversion (100mm pipe) - so no restriction at all.

Also works very well on a Td5...

The only downside is an increase in NVH... i.e. the intake becomes a bit noiser.

If you lift the air box out and look inside where the dirty air feed pipe goes into the air box - you will see the water separator... (actually one of two on a Puma). Simply remove and refit air box.

Yet another one of those jobs on the list. I've got abs on mine along with a RAI that I do want to keep. I want to run a fresh pipe from the air filter box and end it inside the RAI to change it to being a true snorkel, it's just the issue of the amount of space between the hole in the wing and the abs modulator unit. It will get done, one day.

Nice diagram, so the biggest restriction is CAD turbo in, is there an intended restrictor there?

Those figures are cummulative, so the biggest loss is where the biggest difference is, i.e. between the pre- and post-separators just inside the wing. Darren
