Are the pins strong enough for (normal) recovery?

It should have a rating, some are as low as 1.5t alot are 3t and you can get 5t. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Looking at the 3.5t rated ones, the 5t ones are a bit spendy for what they are.

On the Camel Trophy Discovery's were 2 of the 3.5 tons on the front and a 5 Ton at the back.
In my experience the 3.5 tons are strong enough. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Willy Eckerslike got me thinking with his throw away comment of "Where's your recovery points Ciderboy?" sometime ago. On reflection it was a good point and very well presented! However I didn't really deem them as necessary at that time. I am envious of the fun those who went to the Peak District had, and when I do eventually go to a meet wish to be somewhat prepared allbeit minimally to begin with.
Somewhere on this site and I'm bu993red if I can find it now a member has a photograph of two of the Dixon Bate Ball and Pins mounted to his front bumper. My question is thus;- is the bumper up to the task of having these mounted for recovery purposes only. Unfortunately the style of steering guard I have precludes me from mounting recovery rings to the chassis. Any other serious options/suggestions would be appreciated. Not Dixon Bates' but can I assume from this that bumper recovery points are indeed ok? ![]() Ta muchly! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! If you have fitted a beefy bumper then yes it will be strong enough- normal LR unit isn't. If you want to stay standard though something like the Millitary bumper with the recovery pin in the middle is a good idea. I went for Dixon Bate jaws on a MANTEC bumper.
