Am I wrong in thinking that if you never get above 2500 rpm the unit will soot up?
Cannot remember who told me , but it was essential to occasionally thrash it . |

It's a 2.2 Defender, of course there is something wrong with it.
Just drive it as you normally would any other landy, the system is designed to pretty much manage itself. ****CENSORED**** |

not exactly sure but yes think it could be due to carbon build up.
now I'm not going to try and suggest I don't drive slowly but that said I've driven like that most of the time with most of my cars, the last one having 80k miles in it and in essence it was a similar engine. on top of that when the engine is running right I will take it up to 4k rpm - unfortunately that has been so often. also in terms of giving it plenty I suspect full throttle at c2000 rpm is just as good for the engine as say 3000 rpm at light throttle? and besides doesn't mention anything in the LR handbook |

sooting up may be an issue but I'm pretty damn sure the problem I now have is the conclusion to an on going issue from day one that no one has managed to confirm or resolve and as such I'm pretty damn sure in this case soot has nothing to do with it?

Caterham, If you do need to buy a standard turbo I stock them. Id also be interested to know your old turbos fault that is of course exchange.
Ive just been on to TT who make my turbos and they tell me the most commom cause of VGT turbo failure is down to it siezing up from carbon build up. Ive also fitted a few turbos that have had sticking veins due to either carbon build up or due to warping from heat distortion. http://bellautoservices.co.uk/store/defend...bmenuid=57 I can offer you some trade/forum discount on this. ![]() Regards Pete |

MOG. before I let on who has diagnosed I feel it only right I have the oportunity to speak with them first as its been via text messages up till now as I've been to the big apple.
I will however say that its from 'someone in the know'. Pete. thank you very much for the offer however I'm VERY much of the opinion this should be covered underwarranty as I believe this is the issue I've had pretty much since day one. before I'd done more than 200 yards from the dealership the motor kanagrooed (unbelieveably the dealer suggested it was the coating on the new clutch plate !). anyhow this couldn't be repeated / demonstrated. it happened perhaps once or twice more. then Friday night it happened again and hey presto it was then curtains. ......give me patience....... |

I fail to understand how leaving the dealership so many miles ago relates to a turbo failure .
I agree it does not say in the manual driving like a 90 year old is not allowed . They all kangaroo its the rev / clutch holding revs problem |

i don't think clutch or antistall comes into the equation....... the kangarooing is at c1750 rpm with clutch fully engaged.
the above kangarooing happened when leaving the showroom on day one and occured once or twice more and ever since I've had intermittent 'knocking' noises which I suspect are due to poor turbo boost ie turbo boost not accurately achieving what should be achieved ie what the engine expects for a given speed / load. and now at long last it has finally failed. the failure relates to turbo actuator, at present its unknown whether this is an electrical failure (which I suspect as I've long suspected the issue to be an intermittent electrical / sensor issue), carbon build up or something else. |

Whilst it may be interesting to 'theorise' which could go on and on not unlike your woes Caterham on numerous threads you must obviously now present all the facts clearly and concisely to either Mike on here or Land Rover customer care and see how it pans out.
If not you can take Pete up on his kind and generous offer and then move on to the next calamity. Good luck either way..... ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
